Hey there guys,

As I mentioned before I recently a set of white te37 which are not in a very good condition, thus needing refurbishing. Does someone know what procedure should I follow in order no to do anything that would harm the wheels or weaken them? Is there any good paint removal out there that I could use to clean the wheels before I paint them? Should I just use the known technique of sandpaper, and what size sandpaper should I use? Or does anyone had experience before with sandblasting? A friend of mine who owns a set of sw388 told me that he sandblasted his wheels and everything was fine but isn't that supposed to have weakened the wheels??

Please give me some advice :)

It depends how bad the current condition is, there will be guides on youtube im sure. I have done it before on my own wheels and it can be a long process if u want to have that perfect finish.

Ive never heard of sandvlast weakening wheels... Youtube for best advice you can actuallu watch too

Sandblasting wont weaken them by any amount to effect strength in 99% of cases. It just depends how strong they are to start with and how long you blast them for. As the longer the blast the more material removed. Its normally only a few microns that are removed so don't worry

Would be careful where you get it powder coated, as too high temps will weaken the wheels.

I worked as a powder coater refurbishing wheels, heated wheels to 220oC, acid striped, sand blasted and never had a issue with damage to any wheels or heard of anyone having damage to there wheels :)

Forged wheels are fine
just not cast lol

forged wheels are work hardened during the manufacturing process. Heating them up to a very high temperature and then cooling them slowly removes this process weakening the wheels.

Thanks a lot for your responses guys :) I am going to have a talk with a local sandblasting shop here and see what the worker there tells me. I will have you updated :D

bead blasting is another option that's not as sore as sand blasting. chemical dipping is also another option.

Thank you guys. I will have to ask around in order to see what options exist where I live...
