When i bought my car it was stripped, i put DC2 rear seats and a seat belts, until today i forgot one of the seat belts don't technically work (Takes a lot of tries to get it to pull down without locking up) and basically it failed because of this.

Now, when i go to retest, does it need to move freely? when i put a car through mot i fasten all seat belts and he simply unclips them, so if i (eventually) get it down to the point where it buckles and then present it to the MOT guys will it pass? ir does it actually need to be free-flowing - I appreciate it should work.. but 1 person has sat in the rear since ive gotten the car..

Not sure about NI, but in Scotland if you remove the rear seats the seat belts are no longer a testable item. I've done that with our Vitara, the anchor point for the rear seat belts was rusty and the car failed, but I needed the car ASAP so I just took the seats out and it passed no problem. Then I had the anchor point sorted a week later and put the seats back in. Surely a working seat belt can't be that expensive so I'd rather change it if I were you, but as a quick workaround removing the rear seats might work!

I See! I heard of removing it here! I put the belts in and completely forgot until recently. (today, 5 mins before mot) the guy was nice and give me a few mins to get it working. but it wouldnt budge :( haha! Ill just find a rear sealbelt and replace it, its a 20 minute job, just need to find a seatbelt lol

I've heard of cars failing with seats out and others have passed with no seats. It just depends on what tester you get. If any of your mate have one swap the seat belt for the test. I had the same problem with mine I took it apart and put it back together and it works 100%.

My ek9 has been through mot twice with no rear interior and has passed both times without issue. If you have no seats or seltbelts they cannot test them, thus not fail you for them not working.
