Trondelond's EK4

You're welcome. :D More goodies arrived, toyo R1R!

Will probably attend a trackday this weekend, so I'm looking forward to testing these.
I've also had the front left wheelbearing changed, and the discs resurfaced again. Seems like rust on the hub may have been the cause of the brake judders. At some point it felt like they were coming back, but some inspired braking seems to have settled the discs.

The R1Rs worked like a charm at our tiny trackday, as it was really wet around the track most of the day. I was able to corner a lot faster than the other cars, so I´m happy. :)

Here´s a little clip from the event - five cars and the track to ourselves all day :D

I also ordered a replacement for the last wheel bearing I haven´t replaced. It´s a minor miracle that I got home with wheels in all four corners.

Time to change motor- and gearbox oil. And bleed the brakes. The fluid was a little sad after hard use.

EBC Discs and DS2500 pads create a fair bit of dust :

I think I´m going to have to do a little overhaul on the engine during winter, as oil consumption is a little too high for comfort during VTEC now. And I was worried I would get bored.

A little status report :

Got my Password JDM radiator stay, so that went on. I think you´re supposed to use the OE rubber here, but I don´t have that. Anyway, it´s better than what I had before (Strips) as the old one fell off(!) during a trackday.

Changed the last wheel bearing. There was no play in the wheel when I jacked the car up, but when I got it off for inspection.. so THIS MAY EXPLAIN THE NOISE I´VE BEEN HAVING! Looking forward to taking a drive again.

The old door hinges were really bad, squeaked and had lots of play in them. I´ve had a new set kicking about for a long time, and now that the front is off, I figured I´d change them. Loads better.

I was going to fix a little paint problem on the A-pillar, but I noticed a crack of sorts over one rear arch, and bubbles over the other. So I figured what the hell. Only to discover that the arches weren´t all metal.. so I had to get putty, and while sanding the crap down I remembered how intensely I hate bodywork. Besides, I figured I didn´t have enough paint for a large enough area, so I´ll just have to drive around with some marks from the masking tape I think..

The fitment of the EK9 fenders are a LOT better than the old crap that was on :

The left hand side was a little harder to fit, so I doubt it´ll fit perfectly with the bonnet. Better than what I had anyway. I also had to adjust the slam panel for a long while. With a hammer. A big one. Seems that it has been forced down for some reason, and the new grill wouldn´t go over it. But now it does, and it´s coming together nicely :

Figured I´d paint one side skirt as well, as I managed to ruin it previously. As it´s being replaced after the winter, I didn´t do the putty thing, but it´ll look half decent while it´s on. Top coat is in place, tomorrow it´s clear coat and getting the front together. And here´s an animated gif of the paint drying :

Heh, trouble is that I can't stop replacing parts! It was supposed to be a cheap daily. Look where it got me.

Last night was spent with hard negotiations between the front splash guard and the inner fenders. Facelift items on a prefacelift cars aren´t always the most cooperative.

A million parts for installing the new front and rear bumper, and no recollection of where they´re supposed to go;

Some time later tonight, after installing and adjusting the hood which had no intention of fitting straight away, tadaaaa, facelift EK9 conversion :

I also put on the rear EK9 bumper, but I didn´t take pics of that. You´ll just have to trust me. EK9 polyurethane lip on the way, so it´s not all done yet but looks ok :D

Looks loads better. I need a passenger arch liner, cant find one anywer! Lip makes night and day difference

Thanks! Used most of saturday to wash, clay, clean, polish and wax the old paint, so it doesn't look all that bad now. Will post a pic when I get around to it :)
I tried finding the inner liners used myself, but gave up. Ordered new ones instead. :)

Not a huge fan of the replica lip, OEM looks a lot better.

I'm not a huge fan of this post, your last one looked a lot better.

But seriously, folks. Last winter the lip was smashing into everything, and ended up being torn off. I'm trying this lip through winter, and if it survives, I'm considering an OEM one. :D

Haha, thats just... like my opinion dude...

Are there no exact OEM replicas?

Love the rest of it!

:p

And that was a great read, kept me occupied while I got nothing to do.

Can't believe the state of the car when you acquired the car.

Are your front camber arms the 2nd gen versions ?
I've bought some spcs but mine are silver in colour.

I know, I´m yanking your crank. :D

I have no idea, there might be.

Thanks! I love the rest of you as well. Except your lip opinion.

Glad to help! :) The car was full of surprises when I got it, yes..

I am not sure to be honest, but at the moment I am considering replacing them with OE ones instead, as I think I´d like a little more camber in the front and the OE reliability. That being said, these are the best camber arms I´ve come across. They just don´t cope with salt well.
OE front arms with some uprated bushings will be coming I think. Along with a replacement of sorts for the Blox LCA´s.

Anyway, squirtflappers!

Completely forgot, got the squirtyflaps installed :

Anyway, I haven´t done anything on the car since the last update, as it has been working perfectly as intended - a daily driver. :) However, I´m noticing a little bit of wear on the outer edges of the front wheels, so I´m going to ditch the SPC camber arms in front and put on a new set of OEM control arms with Mugen bushings (being pressed as we speak). This´ll give me a little more camber, and hopefully less wear as well.

Also, I pressed in new bushings into the Blox LCAs when I started on this car, thinking that they probably were just installed wrong. Nope - Blox bushings are crap. So these are going on as a replacement. F7 LCAs. :D

The car may go a little more track oriented during winter though, depending on if I sell my Sunny GTi-R.. so yeah, there´s that.
