Hi lads.
Lost the key to my locknut, I've looked it up online, where they hammer a socket on over the nut, but will this work on this type of locknut ? any suggestions appreciated , need to replace my brake discs.

Since we are trying to look at the security lug nut only these pictures are terrible. I can't really tell what's going on there.

But since you lost the key, it's time to just destroy these lock nuts without destroying the finish on the wheel as best you can.

When I did this I got a 12pt socket, found the one that went fairly cleanly over the lug, and then went down a size, and hammered it onto the lug. It displaces the metal and grabs on, and its especially easy if it's an aluminum lug, but these look like steel.

If that doesn't work you could try cutting a thin groove through the top of the nut through to the stud itself using a dremel/grinder/file, and then, using an impact screwdriver with a flathead bit, make sure it's set to go left and then add counterclockwise pressure as you hammer it with a large hammer.

You could also get a torch, and turn it on low and slowly add heat to the center of the lug to make either method more likely to work. Torch set on low so as not to burn your wheel paint.

Good luck

Happened to me once and i got em off using method 2. Ur nuts look quite set in so u havent got much room to protect ur alloys. Ur tyre looks fairly new, cant u trace back to where its gone? Good luck with whatever u decide

Weld a ratchet extension to the end of the wheel nut. I've done this in the spinning collar type before.
Welding is also giving it the heat much like the blow torch idea.

Good idea Jesse, that may well be what a mechanic would do if he took it to a shop. Hardest part about that method is probably having a welder and being able to weld.

Your welding doesn't have to be good tbh. Just getting the heat into it and enough weld to actually hold it to the wheel nut.
Obviously having the welder is the first step lol

got it off with a punch and hammer , with only a small mark on one alloy ! time for new brake discs and pads now , cheers.
