Basically whenever I turn the key back to switch off the car, the speedo needle jumps up and then drops back down. However sometimes it jumps up so far that it actually goes around completely and gets stuck under the stopper meaning I have to take off the cover and put it back.

Have done a bit of research but can't find a solution. Any ideas? is it just the dials that are messed up and need replacing?

cheers

The speedo gets an electric signal from the sensor, there must be a spike when you turn the engine off, I'd expect it to be linked to the sensor or wiring rather than the cluster.

Reviving an old thread! I have sorted this issue out on my car - after trying other solutions I actually found in the end that it was the dials themselves! I've replaced them and now it's sorted. Anyone else have this issue and know any solutions? my old dials are just sat here now and I'm wanting to repair them. I have tried them on a different car, and the needle does indeed jump :(

That's a weird one, I've noticed on occasion my mph needle just drops then picks back up again when driving. Hoping its just a bad connection.

Might be worth having a look at the circuit board for any damage. Nothing to lose if you already have another set.

Yeah I really wasn't expecting it to be the dials, more what the earlier responses said^ Oh that's unusual, just randomly drops even when you're on the move!? I took a look today but couldn't see any damage at all :/ I compared them to another set I have and they're basically identical. Puzzled as to what's causing this :( Could just cut out the stopper so it spins all the way around, as a last resort lol or drive with no plastic cover on so I can flick the needle over again.

Yeah that sucks mate. Are they ek9 dials you have? Makes it a bit of a nightmare for keeping track of mileage etc if you have to change your clocks.

Yeah its happened a few times, that I have noticed anyway. Just when I approach roundabouts it just drops to zero then pops back up to normal. I'm not sure how they get their reading? Speed sensor in the box?

Nope thankfully they're not ek9 dials, just standard vti ones mate. Yeah exactly! I've changed my set and am keeping note to track the mileage.

Oh wow that's odd, yeah I believe it's an electrical signal from the sensor. As said above must be the sensor or in the wiring. Will have another look at the cluster but no idea what it could be. Cheers :)
