Jesse888 Forged/stroker turbo ek9

Yeah I hope so too. Want to build a cylinderhead up over the winter, mine will do for now though. Take it abit at a time and get the bottom end sweet first.

So small update.
Got the block back on the engine stand, done about as much as I can do to it for now, I'm waiting on piston rings from tegiwa then it's all go!

Bought some ACL race bearings this time instead of the ALUGLIDE ones I had last time.
Only real reason for this is suppliers being able to get them too me fast.
With good luck I can get the parts this week and have it built the next.

Plan is to put 1000miles on the engine as fast as possible(hoping 3weeks) then get it out on a track evening at brands.
If it dies I'll buy a c4 and use that while I put the forged block back together again. If it doesn't die then I'll give it a full day at brands and see how it goes.

I may buy a b18c4 for insurance anyway, rather have it and not need it kind of thing...

You thought about using oem honda bearings instead?

You thought about using oem honda bearings instead?
I thought about it. Priced it up, then forgot about it...
Surprised how different the race bearings are to the ones I had previous tbh.
Took block with crank in to machine shop. Asked him if the crank was bent or if he felt it had too much end play. Came back all good in his opinion(we didn't actually measure it but his experience should tell him how much is too much...)
So that's it, waiting on piston rings now...

So over due an update.
Been on a mission past few days, I start work at 3am and get back home at 12. I have to stop working when the Mrs arrives home from work at 7pm so gives you the timescale on how quickly this has come together
Piston rings arrived Thursday evening so I took to building the block back up Friday with the goal of getting the bottom end sealed in one day.
Cleaned the block and crank just before install and it's been washed 4x now so it's all super clean in there.

Then Saturday was about getting the rest of the engine built and the engine in the car, managed to get all that done in under 5hours, the whole cars just put itself together pretty much!

All wired up, plumbed up(other than inlet and turbo)

Then today I got the box on the car(on my own on the driveway) and got it all bolted up on its own mounts.
I'm off work tomorrow so I should get this ready to start by end of play, assuming nothing breaks before hand!
Only thing left to purchase is a smaller alternator belt because the "Race" version of the fluidampr is 40% underdrive so the oem belt is wayyy to long lol
Hopefully I'll have an update that says the car runs tomorrow.
If not then I'll have a wanted post for a b18c4 lol

Too right mate.
Will be back in the garage in about half hour.
I'll update later this evening with how it all goes.

So update time!
The engine runs, sounds alright to me aswell.
The car hasn't seen idle for more than a minute(overall) and I'm having good fun running it in with abit of boost!
Only done 4.5miles today but no smoke and pulls great, hit 0.4bar of boost and 5700rpm.
That's about as much as id like to give it for afew miles. Doesn't blow by like the old engine(so far).
Oil pressure is 80psi at 3k, I'm used to seeing 90 on the gauge so I'll be watching that!
I didn't check the clearance on the bearings this time round(should have done it really) but wanted to get the block shut within a day to keep contaminants down to minimum.
Used ACL race bearings this time so probably the extra bit of clearance or something.

Going to do 50ish miles then dump the oil out and have a look at it. Hopefully I'll find nothing and can get some proper mileage on it over the next 2 weeks!

Small updates will come thick and fast hopefully.

Damn you work quick lol. It will be fine this time I'm sure !

Tender hooks until I can get afew more miles on it and see what the oil looks like.
Vital signs are all good ATM but it's only 4 miles lol

Might do that. Will see how it goes.

So 40ish miles down.
First oil change, small black partials just like last time. I think they are bits of piston ring.
Turbo needs a rebuild I think so no boost until I can get the parts for that.
Engine seems to run fine so I'll keep going on the run in. Then get the turbo rebuilt.

Hats off to you Jesse for your dedication! Really hope it works better this time! It just shows that engine building is a bit of an art and certainly a steep learning curve. Hope to have a go at it myself at some point!

Yeah if the same type of failure happens again it's back to the drawing board tbh.
The engine was practically polished inside when I put the sump on so it won't be dirt/contaminants from assembly.
It's hard to keep going when you expect it to fail again but if it dies, it dies and I need to have another go lol

Mate I quite believe your onto a winner this time around.... Stop expecting it to fail lol

Haven't had much luck with engines on this ek9. So I'd like to see closure of these issues. Even if it's for other issues like the turbo going for example.
Something alittle cheaper and less hard work lol
