not been on here in a while! thought i would share some pics of a gearbox rebuild on a mates EK9 from last week, might just be me but always like to see pics of the guts of cars
car sounded horrific on idle, let alone driving, clutch had recently been done and also didn't sound like a release bearing so time to take the box out and investigate
i've rebuilt a number of B series / K series boxes and seen an input bearing fail so figured same had happened here
car into garage and gearbox out
casing split
hmmmmmm, few balls missing there!
i ran out of gloves at the time......... but the magnet did a good job of picking up bits of the bearing race
gearbox thoroughly inspected and seems like we caught it in time and no major damage done
got a lend of an impact gun which made stripping the countershaft / diff SUPER easy. countershaft stripped
be rude just to chuck a new bearing in right? decided on an Mfactory 4.7 FD. building up the new countershaft
all together with new locknut
old ring gear off the diff
new mfactory piece fitted
old input bearing/seal removed and new seal/bearing fitted
and all assembled!
pic with my m3 after a wee test drive, box feels nice and tight, smooth as anything again! felt gooooooood to drive an ek9 again
now we just need to convince my other mate to sell him his spare cusco roll cage.............
