Cant really get my head around it, the clutch will need replaced at some point

Its a dc2 clutch and s80 4.7fd box

All gears work fine its when down shifting only from 4th to 3rd that I have a slight crunch.... It doesnt happen if I am going slow

All gears engage fine when stationary its just 3rd I have the problem with and only down shifting.

I put the car into 1st and lift the clutch and I hear a judder?

Is it on the way out or possibly a warped flywheel?

What's the mileage of the clutch?

How are your engine mounts doing, especially the rear one?

Good chance the brass synchro is worn or the synchro sleeve is damaged on the 3rd gear, not a big fix other than time. And you'll be dropping the box anyway as clutch judder is a classic sign that it's on the way out.

Yeah the clutch needs done, how hard is it to do?

Split the box, change the brass synchro then seal it and wait for that to set?

its not hard when you know how, its easy enough pull out the box and fit the clutch, but bring the box to someone to build it for you if you have any doubt!!!

just drove it home from my mates and never had a crunch at all... was only around 1 mile of driving.. I went up and down the gears just to see if it would do it.. strange

When I do the clutch get some fresh Honda mtf-3 will help a lot if the existing fluid is past it

I've got .5 litre left in the hut, I'll need to buy some more from Honda. Is it 2.5l the box takes or 2.8l?

Thanks

2.2 for a refill
Believe it's 2.3 if filling up from rebuild.

my one is S4C with LSD

It happens to me during shift from 2nd to 3rd

Sounds like a warn syncro but if the clutch is on the way out it wont be helping... as above not a difficult job if you know what you're at, parts are cheap its just the time and knowledge to get it done right.

Would be a good DIY project if you want to learn whats inside a gearbox and how it goes together but if your tight for time / need the car then just take it decent crowd near you and get them to have it apart.
