hello.
I was wondering if it was possible that worn valve guides could cause a tapping/ticking like sound?

I am asking because I've already did a valve adjustement, changed the stock lma for skunk2 lma.

The sound is barely noticable, sounds just like a valve was not adjusted. Comes from the intake side on the #2 or #3 cylinder.
The engine was rebuilt 15k km ago, doesn't smoke or burn oil, so the valve stem seals are (still) ok.

Any thoughts?

Not injectors is it? I find the injectors quite loud on these and they can make a ticking/tapping noise.

Adjusted them all correctly I assume? Worth double checking if your worried about it.

Forgot to mention, I've replaced the injectors with another set, no difference.
I admit, it was the first time i've adjusted valves on a b series, did it before on a number of d series, so i know what i'm doing :).
Another thing I should mention, when I adjusted them i've noticed they were all too tight. A friend mechanic told me that this is normal, because the engine was rebuilt and a valve adjustement shortly after is advisable.
But the sound was already there before my adjustement, even when the valves were too tight .
Will check them again to be sure..

I meant that I find the injectors noisey as standard, changing them wouldn't prove anything.

I also find the injectors loud, but when i listened to each one with a screwdriver stethoscope (lol) i found that one was a bit louder than the others. A friend had a b16 engine in bits and i borrowed the injectors just to rule them out.

Just checked the valves, everything in spec.

Hmmm interesting problem. For the most part Honda guides are pretty good but that doesn't mean they cant wear. Maybe talk to the machine shop that rebuilt your head? They would have no doubt given the guides a quick check when removing the valves and working on the head.

I've already talked to the guy shortly after I noticed, He said that everything was ok and that he didn't notice any abnormal wear on the guides.
I did some research and found that the exhaust-side valve guides are more likely to fail/wear out that the intake side. So that doesen't make sense either.

I imagine the exhaust wears a tiny bit quicker due to the extra heat on the side.

Overall I'd say if the noise isn't too loud to not worry about it. If you find the fresh valve seals start to wear out and you can smoke on decel (followed by throttle application) then you could have worn guides (the worn guides will flog out seals quicker).

There is no oil consumtion or any smoke coming from the exhaust whatsoever. Not on decel, not on acc.
So i think the stem seals are doing ok.

I the last few days i think the noise is getting a bit louder.

The funny thing is, when the car is cold, i cant hear the ticking. It starts when it warms up.
Also the noise is barely noticable at idle. But when I drive, especially in a low gear, and hold the revs at about 3k rpm it is very distinctive.

To rule them out, I'm going to disconnect the alternator and power steering belts, because I also suspect the alternator being a bit loud when listening to it with a screwdriver.

Any ideas welcome :)

Did you find the problem?
