Misfiring and hunting idle issue.

On start up, exhaust puffs bit of blue smoke, revs shoot up to 3k and very very slowly come down to 1.5k like within 5 seconds and stays there idling. Whilst idling the engine is vibrating and idle does not sound right, I suspect misfiring. Give it a rev, the engine stops vibrating but idle starts hunting, 1k to 2k constantly.

Also when driving in busy traffic, moving off and slowing down under 20mph, the car is jumpy each time I press or release the gas pedal. When stopped in traffic, I lift the clutch halfway with other foot on brake pedal, this stabilizes the idle and stops hunting. Just find it embarrassing when it’s hunting in busy traffic lol.

Went to a few local garages but waste of time, they all tell me difference stories or to come back later as they are busy. I was told I have a vacuum leak somewhere, crack in intake manifold and even bottom end knock WTF.

Now I’m not mechanic to know everything but did a bit of research and so far I’ve removed the idle air control valve and sprayed brake cleaner inside then put it back in but made no difference. Tried to bleed the cooling system by jacking the car up front, leave radiator cap off, heater on max and start the car up and let it run. 45 minutes later and still no cooling fan came on or bubbles on coolant appeared. Temp gauge stays at ¼ and does not go above. Have replaced the thermostat and still no difference. I’ve forgotten which hose it is but let’s just say top hose is slightly warm and bottom hose cold, I could be wrong, may be the other way around but cannot remember to be exact.

How long should it take for it to bleed or am I doing something wrong? 20 minutes the car is fully warm, the temp gauge is at ¼ and I’ve never seen it go above even when driving for hours.

if it's very cold outside sometimes it won't warm up atal. Does the temperature go to the middle if your driving it ? Also your idle problem doesn't sound like a vacuum leak to me anyway. Sometimes cleaning iacv isn't enough and it needs replacing. Have you checked your tps sensor ?

No never seen temp go above ¼ and this was a few weeks when outside temp was around 15C, I tried to bleed it twice. May consider replacing IACV if I'm lucky to find someone local whose I can borrow to see if it fixes. Don't know much about throttle body sensor, what do I need to look for?

Are you sure you replaced your thermostat with a new one and done it right ? Just that it sounds like that's the reason the engine isn't heating up. To test the tps you'll need a multimeter. If you google it you'll find the exact way to test them but basically there's a 3 wire plug going into the throttle body turn on your ignition and there's two wires you have to tap into it should be 0.5 volts when throttle is closed and about 5volts when throttle is fully open.

Cheers I'll look into it, not sure about the thermostat, I just removed the old and popped in new one, it already had a seal on it.
