robthedoc's ek9 turbo, adventures in boost!

No low down, I know he's in good hands and somewhat what he's got coming, although he'll be around 500hp I should imagine....

Thanks for all the support everyone really appreciated! Sorry for not keeping you all updated but was a hectic day and as Jesse said it wasn't trouble free, but... It got there in the end. More than happy with it. Over the moon actually. Aonghus is the man! Can't thank him enough. I'll get pics vids and figures up later but if you cant wait then add me on Facebook. Rob Docherty. Cheer @R1PPU

Ok guys so Thursday there was dyno day for the 9. It's been almost a year since i started making lists of parts required to build it. Come a long way from then and learned a hell of a lot.

So arrived at SOS motorsport in Falkirk About 10 just as @LoganK 's ep3 was getting started. Logans went really well and sounded amazing but most importantly he made what he wanted. His came off about 12 and then it was my turn...

On the way to SOS.... :naughty:

Prior to tuning I had been having all kinds of problems getting a base map on the car to run it in. The wideband was giving strange readings and the s300 ecu was doing some almightly wierd ****. Was difficult to say weather it was the hondata board or the ecu itself.

So Aonghus brought over a spare s300 ready ecu and a socketed ecu for neptune just in case. We tried my s300 in his ecu and still had issues so the decision was made to tune it on neptune.

Using his wideband we confirmed the reading on my gauge was wrong. Ok so now we are just about ready to tune.

So the car is now on the dyno and about to get going. Last thing to do is change the plugs. Now, I've had the plugs in and out this car 20+ times. I've changed probably thousands of sets of plugs in my life and time as a motor mechanic. So whenI tried to take out plug number one and it left the threads in the engine, I thought it was game over. The car has fought me every step and I thought this was going to end the day!

Basically the hex and complete electrode part of the plug separated from the threads and they remained in the head!

I'd seen this once before on my old flat mates vr6 golf and we eventually bit the bullet and got it out with an easy out. Didn't have any easy outs so Dave from SOS gave me some long splines to try and tap into the inside of the threads to get them out. First attempt failed! I'm starting to sweat at this point. Tried again with like a torx bit but its square rathers than pointed. Forget the proper name for it. It taps in and.... Out comes the threads. Ever came in your pants? That makes two of us!

So the new plugs go in and finally the tuning starts, It's 5pm!

Then the tuning started and went on for hours. Wasn't finished till about half 11!

The figures just started going up and up, I was buzzing and I have forgotten most of the exact numbers but I'm sure the low cam finished at 250 whp, then it was on to the high cam. What a noise!

The numbers were going up to mental levels and it was something else to watch. But the highest we saw was 428 whp.

Time it was finished and this was the final result....

So 492.3 Hp at the flywheel, 416 at the whels at 367 ft/lbs of torque.

Very Very Happy!!

Trying to act cool when wanting to do kart wheels lol
