So I timed up my engine whilst it was in the car this evening, if you've seen my build thread you'll be aware of the spec etc.

Got the belt on and marks are bang on.
Went to do a rotation to check all was ok, and I only got about 90degrees crank rotation and I seem to have some interference

feels like I'm touching a valve, I haven't had time to have a good look at what's going on yet.
But thought I'd bang up a post to bounce some ideas around.

I don't see how I've got the timing wrong cause all the marks line up....

Any ideas welcome, might be able to have a look tomorrow to see what's going on, Sod's law something has gone badly wrong.

Cam gears point up not at each other iirc

Yeh you've got arrows pointing up to indicate that they should be pointing upwards. And you have marks that line up with the timing belt cover.

Did you use that arp lube that's in the picture on the cam journals/bearings?

So, looks like it's nothing to do with the timing.
Had the cams out this morning and it's still the same.
All valves are up and ok.

It was all rotating fine before, I'm thinking clutch / flywheel end.
It's like there is a bolt too long that's stopping the crank turning.

Anyone had any issues with the action clutch fouling or having to use different pressure plate bolts over oem? @EK9 Matt you run an action clutch?

A 90degree turn from TDC will put all pistons halfway up/down the bore so I think that should rule a timing issue out.

Assume you rotated the bottom end before head went on?
Was you turning it with the spark plugs in?
If you suspect clutch bolts catching the crank case remove the clutch and rotate it again. One thing at a time to be sure. You'll find it.

After looking again it's more like 120 degrees but still pistons are no where near the top.

Yeh I rotated the bottom end before the head went on and all was perfect.
No I haven't got the plugs in.

Not sure what is going on to be honest!
I'm going to take the bore scope home tonight to see if I can see anything in the bell housing catching.
I hope it's not something internal.
It's very strange as all was ok before the engine went in.

Clutch is catching on the inner side of the bell housing. You'll need the box off and chop off the little raised bit, it doesn't do anything I'm sure it's there during the casting process.
I'm sure I've heard of this issue before, may well have been @robthedoc

I geuss it's because the new clutch plate is thicker than the original? and in tern petrudes further than the standard so it's catching on this lug inside the bell housing?

I think the pressure plate is abit more beefy compared to others.

I'll be taking the box out and grinding that lug off then!
Seen @robthedoc thread, he had the same issue.
Thanks for the info again @jesse888,
You're the man.

Got it all sorted now guys! Thanks for all the message's and help.
:nice:
