so last weekend I was doing a Forrest car rally in my b16b engined civic Jordan. Sadly on the second last stage of the event I list drive coming out of a corner and that was our rally over.

The following day I began checking the car over to see what the problem was and I found it very easily. The drive shaft had sheared off in side the gear box. See pics attached.

The spec of my car is a fairly standard b16b with a s4c gearbox with gear-X close ratio 3-5 gears. Carbon synco's and a kazz limited slip differential.

The price for new Honda shafts is a bit on the high side for my liking so wondered if there are any alternative shafts I could use. I've seen yonaka mentioned but wondered what people's views are on these for a competition car.

That's impressive on a b16b

I use mfactory shafts on my rally car, I replace the outer cv joints every year, never had one break yet just preventative maintenance, they are also hollow so lighter

Were there any jumps before the corner? I'd expect to see this on tarmac after a jump if you held the throttle but on gravel that's impressive!

Unless you are spending mega money, most aftermarket shafts are poor quality so I would stick with Honda personally

I'm using Honda shafts on my 250bhp K20 Integra using 16" full slicks and a plated LSD on track for the past 2 years

I have a set of low mileage 98 Spec DC2 shafts there if you are interested in using them? They were removed from my 99RX DC2 with 60k at the time and are in excellent condition.
I will be keeping the outer CV's as they are 36mm so will work with my 98spec hubs as good spares but they would be too big for your ek hubs so you could use your own outers

Dave - where did you purchase your mfactory driveshafts from?

Oifovo - no this was done on an uphill hairpin on gravel

SPek9 - yes I would be interested can you pm me price and we can discuss via pm.

i've seen that happen twice in civics over the years, its likely the cv cup had poped out of the diff before it broke or it had done in the past and had weakened the cv cup.

The best shafts ive used (230hp built b series) is drive shaft shop level 2.9 inner CV joints, honda EG6 or EK9 drive bars (not ek4) and blue print outter CV joints. monitor the outer joints every rally and change them once a year and you will have no issues

See good things said about the J&R Driveshafts and they are super cheap so could always take spares.
