DC2 touring car, golf tdi
Hi everyone,

This is the car I hinted to in my spoon Integra road car build! The car has a long history of motorsport back from new. It was built as a semi works car to be ran by a satellite customer team in the 98 and 99 BTCC production championship. I've been finding it hard to get photos and info from back then, but it was ran by GR motorsport who I think are no longer in business or who have changed name! It was built from a basically new car and used many mardi gras motorsport parts.

It has been in Ireland many years now and has had a few owners and has gone through various rebuilds and development over the years. Here's a few picture from ITCC races in modello.

The car had landed to me for a few shell mods from its previous owner, I kinda fell in love with the and ended up buying it off him as he was going down a different route with another car. I bought the car as a rolling shell with full Mardi Gras Motorsport racing suspension, front 4 piston Alcons with 300mm discs, ATL composite bag tank with Bosch Motorsport pumps, 4 way adjustable intrax dampers. In the deal I also got front and rear bumpers in standard plastic and in fibreglass, 4mm thick carbon bonnet, carbon headlight deletes and grill, carbon boot door, composite bumper bars, plastic4performance curved window kit and adjustable front splitter with air dame.

So while I got a lot of gear with the car, it's still missing a lot of parts which is basically what I've been doing the last few months gathering them up!

Here's a few pictures of parts I've gathered.

Pretty much have everything I need for the car in those pics, all the safety gear like seat, extinguisher, harness, steering wheel, battery, all new fuel fittings and lines, new brake fittings and lines, new wheels, carbon dash (extremely light!!) all the parts required to build the car loom, all new suspension bolts, new wheel bearings front and back and new longer wheel studs and nuts

I had to do a few shell mods as I'm quiet tall (6 foot 5) and needed to mount the seat as low as possible for good head room with a helmet. So I mounted the shell on my spit so I could do the fab work

Picture of the fuel tank in situe, notice the clearance for a nice clear flow for the exhaust.

Here you can see a dash bar I fitted as the car had none!!!! Also I've fitted extra side intrusion bar along the floor. I've also fitted tubes for air jacks, the car is very low and with the aero I plan to buy it's going to be impossible to get a jack under her so they are a bit of an necessity...

I also fitted a new higher harness bar so I had the correct angles on the belts.

I had a originally thought to build a big power b series 2000cc engine, but due to the complexity of the engine spec required and the fear one small mishap would cost thousands my mind was changed to go k20.

I bought an English spec EP3 that had its interior stripped out for a project but never finished so I was able to run the engine to do a leak down and compression test and I'm happy to be report that all is good!

So current status is I have a few parts to buy, engine mounts, exhaust manifold, exhaust parts to build a system, haltec ecu and wiring loom, AiM dash, helix clutch and flywheel and Titan throttle bodies. The shell also needs a few finishing touches before it can go for paint but I had to put it to one side for a short while as I am in the middle of building an eg6 rally shell, once that's complete in a couple of weeks I'll finish the fab work on the Integra!

This post took a while to write... I hope yee enjoy the build up of the car! Any questions just shout!

A couple of photos of the dampers and brakes,

The 16's make the brakes look small, plenty of room for bigger discs in future!

Beautiful build

Now this is a proper build!!

Ive been looking forward to seeing pictures of this project Eoghain and it doesnt disappoint. :nice:

Its cool to see some really high end parts being used on the car and stuff being done right

Thanks lads! I hope to have her ready for testing at the beginning of next year all going well!

Those intrax are an insane price I'm glad I didn't have to pay for them day one.... And these units are the full 4way dampers that also have the spring platform that allows the spring to be wound into the platform nut, effectively changing the spring rate to a small extent to help with corner weighting. The damper also has the 3 normal adjustments high and low speed damping and rebound, it also has a 4th adjustment which moves the entire range of high and low speed to be adjusted harder or softer without changing there relationship to each other, handy for a wet and dry setting!

I forgot to mention I also need to source rear brakes, the Integra came with brand new genuine Honda calipers. I have sold these to a friend who was stuck with dodgy rear calipers on a road car! I will be ordering the 2 piston brembo set up off DMRR it's a really light set up that I have used many times on rally cars, only small issue is they are only supplied with bells to suit 4x100 or 4x114 so will have to re drill them to suit the 98 spec hub!

Edit** found a photo of the rear brakes i fitted on another car

Yeah the Intrax 4 way are as much to buy as the car! Proper suspension! I take it you are going to get them properly set up? As in height, 4 wheel alignment with camber, toe and castor settings, then corner weighted along with the correct settings for you/track? This is alone is worth more to me than any other modification.

haha yes i will be!

Designing some custom front camber arms at the minute which give more clearance to the shell than the normal type arms, i already have extended the topmounts up slightly for more space as they were well battered when i got the car! i've no photos at the minute but will get some tonight

The track control arms are rose jointed already, and i will be using my own adjustable lower wishbone/compression strut to give whatever castor i want.

Should be a cracking dc2 when it's up and running.
Suspension envy for sure!

thanks for the kind words everyone!

Eoghain - build looks like its going to be the real deal get us more updates :)

Should be good when its done! with work and that EG shell i need to finish its gonna be a couple of weeks before i get to finish the integra shell and get her off to paint, so the updates might be slow for a while..

I Ordered the Engine mounts, exhaust manifold and Haltech Elite 1500 with wiring loom last night so should be some nice shiney parts coming through the door in the next couple of weeks!

Still haven't made my mind up what i'm going to do gearbox wise, i would love to go sequential but its hard to organise the money for a proper one like a Sadev or a 3MO. Not interested in the 5 Speed quaife as the ratios are poor. So i have been looking for a second hand Sadev unit like a ST75 or a ST82 but not much luck yet. The other alternative is to build the k series box using M Factory gears, but by the time you have the new gear lever, new cables, new diff, new gears and a few bearings and synchro's you are defo talking the bones of 4k euro, if a second hand sequential came up for sale in good condition you are basically talking the same money...

So long story short, still undecided...

this is the next thing on the shopping list http://www.aimshop.co.uk/products/aim-mxs-strada-car-racing-dash-display :drive:

Im hanging onto this thread for the long haul haha - Some good shiney parts arriving soon which is always good

I'm glad you've decided to share this here!

I suppose this is the forum i've used most for a long time!

I'll add a few more photos later when i hit the workshop, i had an issue with a BG quick release steering boss that had play on the splines made it feel like there was a track rod end gone! So i contacted Eoin Murray in Murray Motorsport the company i bought it from and he sorted out a replacement ASAP and i got that yesterday! I've been dying to see what the summit racing steering controls look like mounted on the steering wheel!

I have no affiliation to Murray Motorsport but i'd just like to add i've bought alot of parts off them for this project and have nothing but good things to say, really good communication, they always beat other prices i've gotten, fast delivery and they deliver all over the world! If you need competition spares check out their site and email Eoin for a quote!

Here's a few more pics of a few of the shell mods in around the engine bay.

Here you can see the tube which runs across the top of the bulkhead and connects to the tubes which come from the forward stays of the cage inside the car, just to give a little more bracing across the car.

7FDBCA8D-A45A-4367-8C36-49B28F6F5BD4.jpg

This tube connect the top mount to the front subframe mount, it actually passes through the top of the chassis leg and is welded to the captive nut inside the chassis that locates the front subframe bolt. Sorry it looks crap I did the work on it about a year ago so it needs a wire brushing!

You can see the reliefs on the top mount for the top wishbone, they were battered to hell when the car came to me first.

Love the raptor/wheel combo

The race teams must have ran the car very low of the strut mounts were battered like that

I've seen very similar strut mount battering like that before. Was on a dc2 track car with hardrace camber arms.

I think when it's full weight this lady was 60mm off the road with the intrax, it has a few trick bits to get the wishbone geometry back to correct angles!

The raptor is a nice piece of kit, I've been drawing wiring diagrams all evening...
