How does the B16B EK9's intake manifold compare to the ITR B18C one?

Are they the same part?

no, they are different.

The B18C intake mani was desighned for the 1.8L engine,

Just simply bolting the B18C mani to the stock B16B will probably loose you power(if you had that in mind)

biggest differences are that you've one resonatorbox less and an different formed air-filter.
Also it's designed for the 1,8l engine... trie it :)

i dont know about that, i am pretty sure they are the same part.

:nono:

The B18CR inlet manifold is different to B16B. Im sure the ports are bigger.

If they werent bigger then why would the B18 have a larger throttle bodie? It wouldnt be much use without matching the ports to the throttle bodie.

Your talking about the induction/intake system. Hes talking about the inlet manifold.

So is the chamber (plenum) actually smaller on the B16B because the 1.6L air intake is lower? Id imagine its very much like the ITR one but with a smaller TB port and plenum.

I dont think the chamber is larger, its the ports in the runners that are larger. The fact of that would be due to the lower intake air from the B16B.

But size of runners/TB need to be matched to engine size/air intake amount to work properly. So by simply putting the larger/higher flowing manifold on the B16B without any tuning is pointless.

its not that i dont believe u but i cannot find any info on them being different except for the vacuum nipple on the back of the manifold which is why they are labeled pct & p73.

Is this for certain mate?

Yup, same casting, may be small differences like mentioned above there is 1 nipple in the rear but as far as plenum volume/port shape/size/runner length/etc.. they are identical.

I would guess Honda just used a smaller TB on the ek9 to make up for the design of the IM being for a 1.8.

Well I stand corrected :)

Ive been misled,

Cheers

Yes they are identical. Same part numbers, same head. Its only different to the B16a which has a different head again.

um can i ask something? im buying a ukdm itr b18 cylinder head on the weekend and sticking on my b16a2, do i have to buy a b16b/b18 inlet manifold?:nerv:

Yes, also the OEM IM is plenty for B16

Yes, also the OEM IM is plenty for B16

the head casting/stud pattern is the same tho, the only minor issue may be the port matching between the i/m and head,

cant see any reason to think the b16a manifold wont work

well ill put a wanted up on the forum for a b18 manifold then just incase thanks for your help

If they are the same part numbers, why was a left with one pipe left over from the swap?

There is a vacumm pipe os something left over, the B18C manifold had one less inlet pipe?

This one here was not on my B18C manifold:

they are the same!!! i helped a friend pull his p73 manifold from his b18c and measured the runner openings and the tb bore and is identical(compared to the P73 manifold from my CTR) ..... its was quite some time ago so i dont recal the exact #'s but they are indeed the same! and there is no porting/machining on the 18c manifold!!! they use the same block, head, intake manifold. only different crank and TB!!!!

Any gains to be got from using a b18c i.m on a b16a? Seen it done before so am curious to know is it worth while.
