Nurburgring 2014 EK9.org trip

I did not dare going over 120mph through it. Too scary, it is a very critical piece with a very short amount of time and track to brake before the corner that follows. Brake too early and be killed by oversteer, brake too late and crash...Some guy from the Dutch Honda community did it wrong and the crash was really major...

The crash at 8:20 is someone else but also in the Fuchsrohre, the one at 8:30 is the Civic EG K20:

I'm keeping an eye on this topic. If a date is set for the Ring trip, I might come over for a day. I'm only 200km away from the ring and it should be fun seeing so many Civic's out there.

He got lucky because of his cage, only some light injuries, I believe one bone near his shoulder was broken and further nothing major.

3 of us (car each) plan on heading over on the Thursday 22nd May until the Sunday, looking at booking early next month. Really looking forward to it, and cheers Steven, going to inquire about this when I start looking at B&B's, would ideally like 3-4 spare wheels and tyres with me incase some don't come back road legal etc... Out of interest what tyres do you guys run at the ring or had experience with? Have some 888's, pirelli pzero cut slicks, and Hankook RS2's, the slicks are overkill for my application I reckon and ideally I would like x4 fresh 888's because there's a lot of speed involved there!

In the morning the Nordschleife can be damp so take that into account when choosing a tire.

probably a bit of a severe comment there

in the dry the corner which follows foxhole you take as much kerb as possible to ensure you get a nice wide turn in for the following right hander up to adeneau forest - if you pay close attention when driving the track you notice that the grass is worn beyond the kerb, goes to show how much people cut it!

if you brake too early then you won't be killed by oversteer - you will just have more time to asses your turn in point / brake too late then you will miss your apex, to crash it will take an awful lot more factors than your braking point

i agree that it is a very awkward corner, Ian was in my EK9 when i missed 4th and over rev'd the engine into the corner - no such dramas in the M3 yet thankfully.

when you take the foxhole on sticky tyres the compression really sucks the car in, by the time your mind processes this you don't have long to brake, change down a gear, turn in.... then if you take the corner at pace you have to then make sure you have a wide entry into the r/h after, then again you are onto a tricky part of the track - adeneau forest........

adeneau forest is a tight section, you have a VERY late turn in to the l/h - turn in too early and you will ruin it

my replies before are maybe sound a bit too cocky to be fair saying i need to take things flat etc - the Nurburgring is a dangerous place, i'm not going to post crash videos as i ****ING HATE THEM!!!!! scaring people is not the best way to get people to appreciate the care they must take when driving over there - all i can say is make sure that your car is in 110% mechanical condition and you drive to within your own comfort zone and most importantly HAVE FUN!

couple non crash ring vids :)

Maybe just a difference in experience ;)

By braking too early (edit: in Fuchsrorhre) you are braking in the corner - with obvious results :) That's what I meant. Because of the speed you have the time for braking after Fuchsrohre before the following corner is not that much. At least, not for someone like me that hasn't done a lot of trackdays or 100 laps at the Nordschleife. One thing I have noticed is the more experience you have, as well in your car as on a track, the more time you feel you have for doing the right thing on the track. So maybe that's why your assessment and mine differ - I have a lot less experience than you do.

Exactly what I meant :nice:

there is a difference between braking too early (killing more speed than you need to) and trail braking (braking into the apex, used to unweight the rear end and aid turn in on tight corners when done right)

as you say though it is all about knowledge of the track, the more laps you do, the more you concentrate not only about the corner you are about to take but more on the consequence it will have on the 2 or 3 corners ahead :)

I used Kumho v70a when I went last year. I'm not a hardened racer but only have positive things to say about the tyre.

the video i put up i was running A048's on the ek9 at the ring (had always ran R888's but fancied a change to compare what is better) - overall the R888 is a better tyre as the yoko's are appalling in the damp let alone wet

ideally you want scrubbed in R888's for the ring and then some road wheels for getting there and back

on the M3 i was running michelin pilot sport cups, on a heavier car this is THE tyre to run there

Track day in July, £300 open pitlane, might do this, much better than a tourist day!

I'll be going out for the long weekend near the end of June most likely :)

buddy of mine and myself may go there the end of May. We'll be bringing his newly acquired CH1. So if anyone's up for joining us.

Will be the weekend of 24th - 25th of may.

Sounds good! Went two years ago, but got my ek9 this year so might have to join you if I can get the holidays from work!

On a side night, on a tourist day are your guys' cars insured, if so how?
