JDM EK9 Race car project nearing completion

I have two wings, one is a D2 Aerodynamics wing for small downforce, and this one. It's a random wet carbon wing I got through one of my suppliers, it only cost me NZD350, or about 120 pounds sterling. To say we are spoilt here in New Zealand would seem to be an understatement!

jaime102001: I would really have to have a look at the specs of your whole car, as its often something to do more with weights and corner to corner balance of the car than just power. Remember that a B16b makes its power higher up the rev range than a B16a, and you have to be willing to rev the crap out of it to get the most out of the engine.

What LSD are you running? What exhaust/headers/intake? What suspension package does it have? If the B16b is standard and the B16as you mention are modified, then its likely you will need some pretty serious commitment to stay with them and beat them.

I would also be upgrading the brakes on your car to at least BB6 Prelude (282mm front, 4x114.3 all round) so as to stomp on that pedal even later.

If you're only talking about straight line then there's not much that can be done, but exhaust/headers/intake seems like a good start. My good friend has an EK9 with Spoon exhaust, J's Racing headers and Spoon intake and it goes real good on stock ECU. Hope that helps!

Here you go guys, ready for battle:

Here's some pics of it at the track, as you can see it's bloody wet. It dried out later in the day though so got some good testing in.

i really like it, very aggressive looking, like how a track car should look.

congratulations on the completion, time to put it to the test where it belongs and more vids

The splitter is one of my own design which I made myself. It is a prototype made from 9mm plywood (don't laugh :p), but the final product will be made from some sort of plastic, but haven't decided what just yet.

Front bumper is BackYard Special (PFL), and lip is GReddy (FL) modified to fit.

There is actually a curve in the rear part of the splitter to promote vacuum (and hence downforce) at the front.

Race Car Aerodynamics: Designing for Speed by Joseph Katz is where I took all the ideas and calculations, and I'll be using it to design and fabricate a rear diffuser just as soon as I can remove the spare wheel well.

Its not over by a long shot :)

I really would like to know where you got thoses extensions for the fenders, were they custom made or you bought em? where can i get thoses :D

I got them from the local New Zealand auction website, TradeMe. They were about $100 (30 - 40 quid) and I had to fit them myself. I modded the factory guards (cut them) so the flare actually forms part of the guard, then spaced the guard out further to get the effect I was after.

I would guess you could probably get these from ebay.co.uk as well.

Haven't had any time of late - we're in the middle of our busiest part of the year and being self employed means you don't get much time to the things we'd like...

Had it out on the track a couple of weeks ago with new (harder) springs in the front and the rear and boy what a difference! Finally got the brakes working how they should as well, and was out braking GT3 Porsches and the odd M3 CSL. There was pretty much nothing else on the track that day
that could corner or brake as well as my EK9, but the B16b motor just doesn't have enough where it counts.

The new motor should fix that :secret:

I am waiting on a friend who was at the track day to supply me with a cd of pics from the day. He got all the cars that were there.

I will be in the garage over the Christmas break though - the interior is due for a touch up, and I'll be making a new dash to save some weight. The loom will get re-done and tidied up, and of course the rear wheel well removed and a rear diffuser fitted.

Stay tuned!

oh i certainly will stay tuned, i have loads of questions but i am sure they will be answered in time :D
