Hi guys, I wanted to show you my new acquisition. It is a custom made glow gauge for the civic. Is basicaly a type R gauge with a red mark on the vtec range, and the vti legend (mine is an EK4). Hope you like it:

Where did you get this?

I got them from an store in Poland called MoMan, look them up. It has international shipping, and you can order from the internet. It has several modes, or you can ask for a custom one like I did. All I had to do was send them my current gauges, and the design I wanted. Here are more pictures:

IMPORTANT:
as you can see, this ones I have, have an small hole, and you can oreder them with big holes, so can put them on without taking the needels off. If you remove the tachometer needle you will brake it!!!! I actually made the hole bigger myself, not on the rest of the gauges because you can carefully remove them, but you have to be extremely carefull.

He does gauges from 87 to 2005 civic models.

I don't know if in the eg6 models the taco is removed in the same way than in the EK, but if you remove the hole cluster (wich is fairly easy in the EK), all you have to do is look at it from behind, and you will see three screws behind the taco, which not only hold it in place, but it also sends the taco signals throuh tehm.

The three screws on the right (under the red circle) are the ones you have to remove, and the taco will come off. the four in the middle hold the speedo, and on the left, you have the temp and fuel gauge, covered by the AT lights.

And it cost me 91 EUR, with shipping to Argentina included, the custom ones are the more expensive...

Sorry i ment the actual taco stick from the face so i could change the face or do you just put it over the old one?

Thanks for the pics tho man :nice:

You just put it over the original face.
If you want to remove the face you have to remove the needle, and like I said, if you do this in the taco, you will break it. I did it before and I had to buy a new one. Later I disassemble the hole thing, and I learnt that the needle axis goes through a magnet that is in the middle of a plastic body that hold the inductors. When you pull the needle up, the axis comes along, and when you put it back on, the axis pushes the magnet and it gets pressed against the bottom, and then the needle sticks when rotating.
Just to clarify, if you see the hole thing form the side, you will see, from bottom up; the circuit board that controls the needle movement, the very delicate inductors that move the magnet, the face and the needle. Now, the axis that goes through the magnet is resting on a ball bearing, inside the plastic case that hold the inductores in place, the only way to open this is by undoing the windings of the inductors, wich have more than 500 loops each (and there are four). As you can see, it is a pain in the ass...
The only way to get the face out is by removing the needle from the axis, while it is on the magnet, but there is no room to grab the axis to keep it in place.
Other thing I learned is that the electronic circuit of the taco is the same for every taco scale, you just have to change a set of resistors that set the scale.

I´m writing all this because I´ve already broken the taco once, and it was a real pain in the ass to get a new one, and it wasn't cheap!

Ah thanks very much man an how do i go about setting the risistors so it reads properly?

Thanks for the write up that took time id say :))

Sorry, but I don't know the value of the resistors for each scale. What I can tell you is that I had an 9K taco, and an 8K taco, and in the back they both had a place in the board where you can solder resistors in parallel, and the 8k taco had one less resistor than the 9K. I may be able to take some pictures tomorrow.

should be fine actually because the car will only rev out to what its set to anyway so if it can go higher it will thanks dude :) Emailed yer man there to see will he make me custom gauges

I almos forgot:

The one in the left is the one in the VTi, or 9K scale, the one in the right is the 8K scale from an EX civic. As you can see the 9K scale has 0 ohm resistors in J2, J3, J4 and J6. They use 0 ohm resistors, but is just like a short circuit (or close to it, 0 ohm resistor have parasitics that can be use to conpensate frequency response). The 8K has connections on J1, J2 and J6. That is how you can change the scale.

I just got my custom gauges delivered yesterday from MOMAN thanks to this thread. I did a EM1 style gauge since I'm in the USA and use MPH. But I had him delete the Si logo and replace it with Premium Fuel. I loved the 10K RPM gauge from the EK9 so I had them do that. Instead of the spotted texture background from the EM1 I did a solid black. Anything amber color was changed to red. Added the red dashes and made the E And H red as well. The quality is amazing. Seriously looks and feels OEM. I painted my needles using some needle paint from Amazon red as well.
