Hello! I want to ask question, which of these intakes could be the best for B18? :) Mugen Airbox, DC2 OEM Airbox or Whale *****? Which one is the the best? Maybe you have some Dyno results, that can see which one is the best! And is that big difference between DC2 OEM Airbox VS Mugen Airbox? :) Can,t decide which one setup would be the best! Thanks! ;)

Not 100% sure but I think in order of best first, what you said sounds about right - Mugen airbox first, then OEM DC2, then whale *****. I'm quite sure the whale ***** is pretty poor besides making lots of noise (vtec sounded loud! my brother had 1).

A good cold air feed is what you'd like. An 'AEM V2' is what I'm using but may be difficult to find one for sale.

Mugen air box is best, back to back against my ek4 stock box i saw 8hp and 12nm gain on same dyno
Cant find dynosheets thou ☺
Spec was b16a2 stock with toda v1 header, 2.5" Greddy catback and No cat ☺
With stock air box 176hp, 155nm
With Mugen air box 184hp, 167nm.
Both was untuned stock ek4 ecus
Whale ☆☆☆☆ maks alot of noise but heat soaks alot, have seen 4hp gain on dynos thou, compared to stock ek4 box.

Regards Carsten

Big thanks to you bro! ;) How much about costs Mugen used airbox? But still i am interested how good are like OEM DC2 Airbox with elbow with like Spoon air filter and cold air feed? :)

I gave 3500 danish kroner for mine used a couple of years ago, think thats about 400£.
Havent seen it against dc2 airbox , but pretty sure Mugen would Come above it. Probably not by as much as the ek4 ☺

OO price is high! But airbox is very good! :) Need to think about get one of these Mugen airboxes! :) Yes, me too havent seen against DC2 OEM Airbox! It would be interesting to see difference, because price difference between these two airboxes are very big! ;) :)

And i am readed and seen CT Engineering Icebox too! How good is that? Now i am thinking about these 3 air intakes- DC2 TypeR OEM Airbox with DIY Cold air feed, Mugen Airbox and CT Engineering Icebox! Just need to get information which one could be the best one! Maybe somebody else can give your,s opinion? Just to be sure to make the right decision! :) Thanks! ;)

It's been covered a lot in the past, on this forum and others, though the forum search results are a bit sporadic and overwhelming... so in order of performance and preference:
1. Mugen EK9 kit
2. Comptech/CT engineering icebox
3. OEM DC2 with DIY Cold air feed and quality aftermarket filter (very close to the Comptech/CT engineering icebox)

You can also construct a full custom kit with tubing, velocity stacks(2), a quality filter and an enclosure. You'll want the tubing going into the enclosure to be larger than the tubing going from the enclosure to throttle body. This effectively replicates a short ram instead of a long ram for better low and mid range gains, and only slightly less top end gain.

Personally I opted for the Mugen kit. It has the largest air intake and enclosure volume and I like the looks of it best. When I purchased my EK9 there was a cheap aluminum short ram on it. I changed the filter to a nice K&N that I already had and ran that for a while. Then I went with the Mugen kit and an aluminum intake tube(as I never had the OEM). The short ram was loud and aggressive sounding but there was a noticeable improvement after going to the Mugen kit. The car ran smoother and had better throttle response and power.

Btw, I haven't looked recently but when I purchased mine this was the least expensive place for a new Mugen kit: http://www.rhdjapan.com/mugen-air-cleaner-and-box-civic-type-r-ek9.html

Wau thats thats pretty cheap for a brand new Mugen kit almost paid the same for my used

I was only finding used ones for close to that as well, hence why I purchased new for not much more.

Big thanks to you! ;)
You're welcome, glad to offer my opinion/experience and hopefully some help.

Some things to note as well. You haven't mentioned if your B18 is stock. Most direct fit aftermarket intake kits are only going to be beneficial for a relatively stock engine up to one with minor mods. If it's heavily modified a custom intake would most likely be recommended. And stock or modified engine you'll want at least 3" diameter tubing from the filter/enclosure to the throttle body.

OO my engine is practically stock B18C6, just little bit skimmed head, polished and venturi style made ITR Throttle body,Tegiwa Whale ***** with K&N air filter EK9 cams, PLM Toda header, now have exhaust about 57mm inner diameter with one resonator and rear muffler, but on spring will build new 2.5" exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers! :)

That,s why i am asking about intake! Now i am thinking to get DC2 Airbox with elbow and make cold air feed! :) Because for me Mugen are too expensive, and CT ai dont know, as i read it is the same as ITR Airbox! :)

Any of the systems would be fine with those mods. And yes, the Mugen is expensive and doesn't fit everyone's budget. If you can find an inexpensive DC2 intake go for it but keep in mind it will end up costing additional for the DIY Cold air feed, velocity stacks and good filter.
If you do end up going the DC2 route Comptech/CT engineering makes the only velocity stack that fits in the OEM DC2 intake and enclosure that I know of. As can be seen here: http://store.ct-engineering.com/Acura-Integra-94-01-Air-Filter-High-Flow-stock-p/310-009.htm
Here is a comparison with the stock DC2 filter attachment elbow: http://www.team-integra.net/forum/14-performance/202593-ct-engineering-filter-icebox-review.html
Personally I would go with a K&N filter rather than the one that comes with the elbow/velocity stack from Comptech/CT engineering. Foam filters flow good but they don't filter well.

Also, here is a decent write up on making a DIY cold air feed too: http://www.team-integra.net/forum/1...alk/125609-improved-diy-icebox-style-cai.html

Looking forward to see what you end up going with.

Very big thanks to you man! I have find just now DC2 airbox with elbow! ;) I am looking on this kind K&N air filter http://www.tegiwaimports.com/media/.../n/knfilters-air-filter-honda-integra-dc2.jpg
And yes, i have found that DIY Cold air feed and try to make it! :) I think it would be better than Carbon Tegiwa Whale ***** intake! :)

You're welcome.
Congrats on finding the DC2 airbox. That drop in K&N should be good, a velocity stack/K&N filter combo would be better though. And yes, I agree that the new setup should be better than your current intake(which you should be able to sell to help pay for the new setup).
Be sure to upload some photos when you're done with it.

Thanks! ;) Yes, i am looking on K&N drop in filter, but thinking about Spoon Sports Air filter too, but don,t know, as i read it can,t wash, it only can use some time and then just need to change it! :) That,s why i better think to buy and put K&N! :) I will try to photo something and upload photos! :) PS. Will make new custom 2.5" exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers too! :) I think it too would be better! :) ;)

Have a look at "discountair1.com" to get the K&N at good price.

I ordered several times and no troubles with them (at least in France).
