Ep3 turbo project

Updates should start coming abit quicker towards the end of this week, in the mean time, another 39ft of heat wrap on the manifold.

Space is tight in the engine bay and alot of wiring, water hoses etc are likely to come very close to the exhaust system, its an attempt to keep things protected from the heat more than for any potential performance gain.

Makes sense! Not much space in an ep3 engine bay

It makes a serious difference to under bonnet temps too.
I thought about doing it on mine but decided not too as I didn't want the heat soak effect etc. Plus on a b series it's not so bad I don't think

My car had a lot of under bonnet heat, even when it was still N-A as soon as I heat wrapped the manifold my face stopped getting scorched as soon as I lifted the bonnet:lol:, CRX has a tiny engine bay compared to a EK though.
Heat soak effect? You mean manifolds cracking etc?

Right, today we pulled the car into the garage and made a start on the build.
Before pic

My brother set about removing the exhaust whilst i stripped the old fuel rail off and replaced the stock plugs with Injector Dynamics plugs.

We then got the intercooler and boost pipes on, dumpvalve on, some of the fuel lines stripped off the car and new plugs gapped and fitted.

Hardest job of the day was probably the fuel pump, we had to modify the pump housing quite abit to take the longer AEM 320LPH pump and also to convert the ep3s returnless fuel system into a return one.
Should see some more progress tomorrow although we are waiting on some parts.

Weve also ran a timelapse of the build which could be cool.

Nice progress, have you two got a few days off work to crack on?

Yeah kane is off for 10days and im off tomorrow and thursday. We should get quite abit done fairly quickly but there will be fiddly stuff that slows us down towards the end.

Boosting in just over a weeks time no doubt!

With abit of luck should be the case.

Ah right fair enough :nice: I personally haven't had heat issues with mine yet, when it was n/a I had the 2.5" tube off the manifold heat wrapped.
Now with the turbo I have none, I'm yet to do a trackday with it though! First shake down is on Saturday at Combe! So will find out then. I do have some spare heat wrap just incase lol.

Yeh I thought that the heat wrap keeps the heat in the exhaust, and when the engine is off you'll retain heat for longer. And on a turbo car that isn't desirable.

More progress today, starting to get tight in the bay now!
Had an issue with the downpipe hitting the rear engine mount bracket, so Gfab'd the bracket so it now fits with the downpipe. Means its not attached via 1 bolt but we hope it will work out.

We got the rest of the boost controller plumbed in, all the old fuel pipes are out, new feed ran most of the way, waiting on fuel rail then we can finish that off.
Weve mocked the turbo etc on to check for clearance on other items in the engine bay but i think we may leave it in now as it is quite a task to fit and have all lined up.

Progress has slowed whilst waiting for parts, got this cool Ktuned fuel rail and the ID1000s fitted though.
Also love the Ktuned fuel pressure gauge

Its getting there though, we are winning lol
