i had this problem way back when i was fitting a b16a2 to my 1.4. it was caused because my car was prefacelift and my new engine came from a facelift car. i tried an obd adapter and a jap ecu but it didnt work for me, the same thing as whats happening to you (sparking but no fuel). i found...

go for a b20 pal i did and it will work out cheaper tham a the b18r conversion and will go every bit as well! uve 5k to play with so you will have a well sorted motor all round for that sort of money!
