Hi all,

I just kind of randomly picked up this EK9, I had one probably 12 years or so ago and always fancied another. It's a shame prices have 4Xd since I sold mine! It's great to see the forum still going though

I'm considering replacing my clubsport spec E92 M3 with it for some much cheaper thrills but obviously there's a big performance difference so we shall see. One will have to go at some point.

Spec -

Bridgestone Potenza RE71-RS Semi Slick

Interior
Pioneer 2-din headunit (AUX, Bluetooth & USB)

Spoon Sports Blue Wide View Mirror Glass (76400-BRM-001)
HK Vision Front & Rear Dash Camera
Brand New Karo carpet
Steering wheel Professionally Retrimmed

If I keep it, initial plans will be bucket seat and steering wheel (I'm 6ft6 and stock position is horrible for me!). I'll need to do something with the exhaust as it's far too loud and I like my track days. It's on JDM Bridgestone RE71RS track tyres so hopefully it has a sump baffle already but I'll need to check. Aside from that I'm just looking to keep things simple really and just enjoy it.

Lovely car. Some nice parts you didn't list too, like the J's muffler, Karo mats, Gruppe M intake, etc.

I got straight on with making the car more drivable, I picked up a Spoon low seat rail and an extension for the shift lever as even with my monkey arms the gear stick is too far away. This is so much better for me to drive now, I can actually enjoy the car.
I just need to sort the steering wheel position now. I haven't decided whether to fit a spacer to the original wheel or go aftermarket yet. It's a shame to ditch the original as it's mint and has the airbag, but a smaller wheel would definitely improve the steering which I'm finding very slow compared to the ultra quick rack on the m3. Decisions decisions

Car looks great.

Think I recognise the username from Cutters if I'm not mistaken? (I'm still waiting on my account being approved after signing up almost a year ago haha). If so, we were both at a Cadwell day ealier in the year.

And one of my E92 from earlier in the year when I had to do a last minute car swap on the morning of a Donington day...

That's right mate yes. Do you still have your e92 as well? I've decided to put mine up for sale now, will certainly miss it but not the running costs!

Yeah still got both - the EK is the track tool and the E92 is the weekend/ring trip car. Very fortunate at the moment to be able to keep both!

I've taken a deposit on my M3 now. I'll be so sad to see it go, they are phenomenal cars but I can't really justify the costs for how little time I have to use it at the moment unfortunately. I must say I'm loving the fuel consumption in the Civic at the moment haha

I changed the tyres on the Civic this week. The Japanese Bridgestone RE71RS track tyres it came on aren't really suitable for the road, I'll put them on another set of wheels in spring for some track days.

I went for 4 x Michelin Pilot Exaltos in 195 55 15 after noticing Michelin have started reproducing these. I ran these back in the day on my old Clio 182 Trophy and thought they were better than the PS3s that Michelin replaced them with and they're only available in a 195 50 profile. A bit of extra comfort and ground clearance is good for the road setup too.

I was hoping they'd improve the ride more than they have vs the RE71RS, though there is a decent improvement it's not as much as I hoped. The Ohlins are very stiff, stiffer than I'd like on the B roads it mainly gets used on even with the damping wound right down. I'll see if I can see what springs they have on over winter and may look to change them and get them revalved.

Spring rates probably too high for UK roads.

Yeah they are incredibly capable. For context ive had my civic for 16 years and done countless track days in it, and after that day at Donington in the M3 I now consider M cars to be cheater cars (kidding) - its so easy to go fast haha

Yeah I think so, looks like 12kg f 5kg r on the specs I've seen for sale in Japan. I might look at dropping the front to 8kg and revalving.

There's not much keeps up with a properly set up one on massive tyres

I’m surprised the Ohlins feel too stiff , I’m planning on getting them for my ek.
