Too many
Hello All,

Greetings from Canada. This is my first post. Presently I am in the process of importing a 2000 Race Base from Japan. Well at least I think it is. It lacks like all of the items which should be removedlaltered and it does not look it has been tampered, however neither I nor the importer can run the numbers to verify.

Any advice would be very helpful.

Andrew

Hi Andrew and welcome to the forum! Sorry I don't understand the question, what exactly does the car lack? Race base will have just a standard EK interior i.e. no Red Recaros or red carpet etc... There might be other things missing too like the AC, ABS and so on.

Hello,

Sorry about my grammar. I meant to write that the car I am importing does seem to have the appropriate items removed to be a race base, however, to be certain it is, is there a list of which vins/serial are actual race bases or a Honda contact that can be contacted to determine if my car is a race base?

Thank you

Andrew

Ah, I see! I'm sure it can be checked if you have the VIN code, but only a dealer will be able to do it I think.

Thank you very much for the replies. Unfortunatley, I am not fluent in Japenese, nor can I read it. The VIN code for the vehicle in question is: 1203666.

car name CIVIC 3D

classification number 8924-011
chassis no 1200001 - 1299999 <----- 1203666
note TYPE R RACE <------
AT/MT MT
Engine B16B

The Vin number indicates it is a race base.

Hello,

Thank you very, very much for this.

By the way, has anybody ever put together a registry of Race Base EK9 Type Rs? I see on this site that there is a registry for all other versions.

Hello All,

Seasons greetings from Canada.

I have a question about conflicting information on RACE BASES. On the one hand many posters from various sites indicate that there were only 200 RACE BASE EK9s ever made (1998 - 2000), whereas the posting 0n this site indicates that there were 716, 98s; 288, 99s; and 263, 00s. This would give a total of 1267. Why the rather large difference?

Andrew

Good question- I would love to hear Honda mythology- Bump- looks like they though it was going to be more popular than it was, starting at 716 a year, then 288, and 263. My dream car- 2000 race base EK9.

I guess you've already seen this thread
http://www.ek9.org/index.php?threads/ek9-in-numbers.66194/#post-745296

The chap who got these numbers put ek9 VINs in epc ONE BY ONE so I'd trust his numbers over anything else you will read. As with most stuff, forums are full of made up numbers and hearsay, which once repeated enough times become the "truth". So my guess is at some point someone somewhere tossed the number 200 out there and it just became one of the countless myths.

Race base were a lot cheaper to buy than standard EK9s so other than race teams a number of people who couldn't afford the "real deal" or simply didn't like the red interior bought them, which is why unmodified, original cars can still be seen. Still a very rare car, especially unmodified as they were originally meant to be stripped out, fitted with roll cage and raced!

Hello Oifovo,

I tend to agree with your pattern of thinking; and yes, I was aware of the link you referred to.

Can anybody who is in the 'know' shed any further light on this subject. If not, it is likely that the total number of Race Bases is 1267 and not 200.

Thank you

Andrew

Hello,

Couple of weeks ago I finally received my car. Everything is as it should be for a Rase Base including: clear back window, non-abs cluster, no abs, no sound deafening, normal interior and no power window. However, it has ac and power steering. Both appear to be factory installed. My question is whether this a common occurence.

Good Friday.

Andrew

I think it's pretty normal for them to have those options, especially the a/c as its a bit of a necessity for the climate in Japan.

I've certainly seen other race base models for sale with those options.

Post some pictures of you car, it's always nice to see a race base

Hello,

Thank you for the information.

I would love to post pictures but I received the car somewhat dirty because it arrived on the transport truck in the snow and I was hoping to get it cleaned up this weekend. However, be it as it may, it started snowing this Thusday.

When the weather permits I will post.

Andrew

What brand is the suspension, manifold and exhaust, any other aftermarket parts?

Hello,

I am posting some of the pictures of the car when it was still at the Japan port. It has an aftermarket manifold (I can see no name on it), aftermarket exhaust, fiberglass hood, aftermarket front end and suspension.
