Ek9
Hi there. im new on here and a realitivly new ek9 owner. looking at making some minor upgrades but as you geussed i need some help. im thinking about up scaling my throttle body and intake manifold, my question is if i do this will i need to get my car tuned or upgrade my ecu. also what will give me the best gains from what TB intake combos, any help will be much appreciated.
Cheers

From what I gather EK9 with its small displacement doesn't really benefit from a larger throttle body, not without other mods anyway. I also have my doubts about how much of a gain aftermarket intake will provide, especially without mapping. Personally I'd rather spend the money on some quality tyres and petrol.

Can't beat an nice exhaust manifold on a b-series :secret:

Thanks for the feedback everyone. i already have exhaust mani and cold air intake. and as for changing the final drive, that sounds rather expensive to do? any small modification that will help with response and minor gains in any department is what im looking for really. any other suggestions?
Thanks again

Cold air intake doesn't really help with power, it's more for the noise (which is cool!) but that's about it. Seriously, without spending money on cams, mappable ECU and mapping you will not get much in terms of any meaningful gains out of the B16B and even them gains are not going to be massive. It is quite a highly strung engine from the factory which sort of limits what you can gain with simple bolt on aftermarket parts. As Liam above suggested shorter final drive will make big difference but there are drawbacks as well if it is your daily. Generally I'd say the best improvements can be done to the gearbox FD, LSD) but it also depends on how you use the car. What tyres are you using? Tyres and decent brake pads are from my experience the two things that will make the biggest difference to any car. If I got a Pound for every car that I've seen covered in tacky tow hooks and fake bonnet scoops sat on a set of the cheapest ditch finders you can find I could go and buy another EK9.

Thanks oifovo. yea i had that thought in the back of my mind aswell but its nice to dream haha. umm tires. . . yeah haha they just EL cheapos ae. what would be your suggestions on tires? also do you mean something like endless brake pads or something els?

There's a whole range of tyres and pads, it really comes down to how you use the car? If it is for general driving around with the occasional B road blast you could go for something like Bridgestone RE002 - I have used them and they are awesome, especially for the money. But there will be other options, there's no such thing as the ultimate tyre or ultimate break pad as they are all designed for slightly different applications. BTW, if you work on your car yourself changing the final drive is not as crazy a task as it may sound, neither is it that expensive, especially if you buy used. If your car is a weekend toy or track car and you have another car as your daily I'd say after tyres and pads the next thing I'd spend money on is a diff. But as you have el cheapo tyres that's certainly where I'd start improving - no doubt others here will agree.

Ok sounds like a sound plan to me. tires and brakes 1st! as for final drive, anyone want to talk me through the process or point me in the direction of a good how to video. cheers again guys loving the feedback and responses, great place to learn a thing or two☺

4.7 final drive into the standard ek9 gearbox is a good mod!
Im not too sure what im planning to do with my broken box but if i do decide to split it then ill be selling a 4.7 kit.
Looking about 250-300 though

4.7 fd for the win ! that's where I'd start if I was you ,

Yeah 4.7 final drive and if you can get a hold of a 98 spec S80 with s4c 4th and 5th your on to a winner best ratio box with oem gears! Loved mine in my B18C EG

Thanks again for all the feedback. i have a s4c gbox ae, so i want a 4.7 fd and any s80 gbox and donor my box for 4th and 5th gear? lol sorry for the newbie questions. but it all helps build knowlage.

The ek9 s4c with a 4.7 is exactly the same thing.

Also with the 4.7 how high would rpm be at motorway speeds, and how significant would top end loss be? i do alot of open road driving so i would prefer not reving to high at those speeds.
Cheers guys

Ah i see haha. any ideas where to get a 4.7 fd from. and if you sell yours 200-300 pounds or dollars?

Pounds unfortunately.
I cant quite remember rpm at 70mph but its not too extreme.

Lol, hello again Chaos! This is the best forum out there IMO. These guys are the ones to listen to when it comes to real advice. :nice:
I have a 4.7 98 spec Integra Type R trans- at 70 mph, the RPM's are about 4,000. My understanding is that the 4.7 trans has a longer 5th gear than the"LS" model, to compensate for the final drive. So the RPM's are a bit higher at highway speeds, but its similar to that of a "GSR" "S80" trans. Definitely not too extreme at all. I love this trans! Gas mileage hasn't really gone down much as i cruise in 4th, or 5th gear around town. I also find I'm always in my power band.

4100 rpm = 70mph with stock size tyres.
Thats ek9 s4c with 4.7 final drive
