hi guys,

i bought a 00 civic type r in mint condition a couple of months ago, & now i want to start to mod it. i don't want anything extreme bcz it's my daily driver. what do u recommend? i was thinking about a mugen exhaust system, an aem v2 induction kit, brembo or endless brakes (on my stock rims of course) & cams, valves & valve springs. what cams to u think i should put? & r there any other mods u think i should do?

your help would be very grateful.

thankyou

george

Welcome to EK9.org mate.

Since this is your daily drive, i will recommend just bolt ons.

This is my opinion on what mods you should do to your B16B since this is your daily drive.

1. TOP FUEL, or MUGEN Intake.
2. Spoon / Toda / Mugen Header
3. Mugen Twin Loop Exaust System.
4. Spoon Plug Wires
5. Spoon / Hp Hawk / Endless brake pads.
6. Rear strut bar (in case you don't use your trunk a lot)
7. Aftermarket ECU, maybe one from phearable.net to remove the speed limit + better performance.
8. Lightweight wheels, for example, advan rg, volks te37.
9. Tein Springs, so you can lower your ride a little.
10. Carbon Fiber Hood.

With this mods you will gain a lot in performance, and you ain't sacrificing daily drive ability.

With camshafts, i would recommend to you to stay with the OEM ones, because oem EK9 Civic Type R camshafts are very aggressive, if you install a more aggressive ones, you will need a compression increase in the motor, so they can work properly. But if you decide to upgrade your camshafts, i will go for TODA B or SKUNK 2 Stage 2. If you upgrade your camshafts don't forget to add, after market springs and retainers.

Hope this help.

Ok, since your are not going for something extreme, I would say there is no need to spend your money for such expensive brakes or perhaps suspension.
Also a good header is a must if you want to go for mods! For Skunk2 Stage I, you don't have to upgrade your valvetrain, for Stage II, you have to get some aftermarket springs and retainers for safety. Both Stages are suitable for daily driving but if you what you want is not extreme performance then I recommend Stage I since they do not require to much head work to give their full potential. Go to the thread about Skunk2 Racing camshafts to get an idea! :nice:

thanks for all your advice so soon!!! :nice: :thanks:
would it be better or make any difference (top end wise) if i just changed valves & retainers & had a remap done(most probably by koyama of jun as he visits regularly)? i also found out that if i cane in 4th gear i go over 190 & there's no speed limiter!! it'll kick in in 5th gear though if u reach 190. so far the needle reached the R when the opportunity came!! :D
external mods r out of the question though bcz i want it 2 b a complete sleeper, due 2 the fact that we have major problems in cyprus with the bloody police!!!

p.s. is it ok if i make a sticker of the sites symbol & put it on my car?

Turbo that BITCH!!!!!!!!!!

amen

if you insist on staying NA though, get a good IHE then some head work, skunk2stage2 or blox spec-B

spoon plug wires are the biggest waste of money! get yourself some NGK if you need new ones, if not stock is fine.

I don't think springs and retainers standalone will do anything in terms of power since they are installed only for safety. However, stiffer valvesprings will give to your car slightly better throttle response. Its the ECU that will make the difference and not the springs nor the retainers. Again an ECU standalone cannot give too much on a 1600cc N/A engine :( Anyway, if you seek some wild power for street driving, they are different paths that you can follow, but an Apexi Power FC combined with Skunk2 Racing Stage II cams and a good 4-2-1 header is just too bad........ for your competitors :)
Don't have to mention what will happen in case you stroke it as well!!
Does Koyama modify Hondas having other maker parts like Skunk2, Toda etc....?

if i'm not mistaken he does but boy does he charge!!!!! but u get what u pay 4. his work is excellent !!! :D question: if put stage 2 cams & all the other necessary parts, will it idle normally?

Skunk2 Stage II cams are design for daily driving and they are better than some "track only" cams when are properly tuned!! Actually, there is a link in a thread(don't remember which) that shows how these camshafts managed to produce similar horsepower with Toda Spec D in a dyno test. That's outrageous!!!: shocked: Note: Even though Stage II are design for street driving, that doesn't mean that they have the same needs like Stage I. The difference is that Stage I might be treated in the same way as stock EK9 cams which can rev at low rpm for a long period of time whereas Stage II must rev to the limit from time to time. Is not good for the engine having these high end - aggressive cams to rev for a long time at low rpm!! If you do the right job, then yes, you will have a street car behaving like a street car.

zeal functionX coilovers and call it a day.

eventually sure, but i think the ek9 stock suspension is good to learn on, unless youve reached the limits of the stock suspension/brakes i see no reason to upgrade, i upgraded all my suspension and brakes but my car started life out as an ej pos.

when everybody modds ek9's why do they go straight to engine!!! the best and most noticable modd and by far the cheapest bang for buck is a fd.... 4.7 or 4.9..... for about 1200 euro fitted it will feel like 30 bhp more to the wheels.... thats all id do to a ek9 (possible spoon stroker but its a little extreme)

:blabla: :blabla: :angry2: If you want a turbo car why not just go get a chavs Impreza. If you really want a turbo VTEC just do it to VTi dont spoil a EK9:confused:
Sorry just my 2p's worth.
Dunx
When the spoiled EK9 will pass next to you like a rocket and you feel a bit shaken, then perhaps you will say "oh, nooo.... what a poor spoiled EK9!!!" And btw, put a turbocharged EK9 along with an STI on a track with lots of curves, and then come back to confirm that you got surprised!! :D
