been in talks with ricky at race-tech, he said its a MUST to get my flywheel lightened and balanced as im going turbo.
anyone actually done this?
is it an actual MUST?
thanks

if your changing the clutch u may as well change the fly while ur at it. just dont go crazy light.

It is not a must, but it does free up more power. Think of all the other turbo applications that don't have lightened flywheels (Nissans, Mitsubishis,etc...). It's just to get the best performance out of your vehicle.

My question is, why wouldn't you do this? Money? To me, if your already spending money on a turbo setup-this is a small price in comparison. It shouldnt be too much to get it lightened and balanced at a machine shop. I had a friend do this with an
Accord, it reved a bit faster and you could feel a bit more response from the throttle.

i was just asking, moneys not a problem. just not sure how much to get it lightened by and where to get it done

I would contact some local machine shops. As far as the weight, I really don't know and would be shooting from the hip. Maybe talk with Ricky. I assume he will be the one tuning?

I would listen to him then. He probably has some dyno graphs showing the difference between a lightend setup versus a stock setup. He'll also know the different weights, what worked best, etc... Good luck man! You will be pleased!

I'm sticking with an ITR flywheel, i'd also like to know if it is essential to have it balanced?

its not a must.

it helps free up the engine. i.e spins up quicker.

i wouldnt bother lightening one. just buy one new for the price.

they start pritty cheap can pick a new 1 lightened around 4.3 kg from 160 i think pal

I had a stock ITR one in my teggy, with a stage 1 exedy clutch kit, made 320bhp (fly) and didnt have any issues what so ever... it returned me 38mpg on motorway driving 80mph, 20+mpg average and 12.3 sec 1/4 mile at pod =D
