Hi!

I ran into an add of a guy selling a DC5 K20A engine swap.
Main reason i have been looking for this, is the gearbox i would like to use for a future K24 swap.

Now i have contacted the guy by e-mail, see conversation below (read from bottom to top) and it doesn't feel 100% legit to me....

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Hi John,

Thanks again for your reply.
I am very interested and would like to buy it from you.

Could you give me some details on:
- How will you arrange shipping (using which courier service?)
- How can we arrange a secure payment?
- How can we limit the risk for me to pay this amount of money and maybe not receive the items?

Is it possible to receive your phone number, address, and personal email?

Thanks!

Best Regards,

Niels

Hello Niels,
The engine is in Ballymena near Belfast. I listed on London because there is easier to find a buyer
The year is 2004 with only 38000 miles on it
Thanks
John

Hi John,

Thank you for your reply!
A few more questions:
- What year is the engine from? (What year was the car it came out off?)
- Do you know the mileage on the engine and gearbox?

And I find an identical add on craigslist in de London area.
JDM K20A Type R 225 HP 2.0L Acura RSX DC5 Engine 6 Speed LSD Trans Typ

Where are you exactly located? And is the swap in London or Belfast?
Thanks!

Niels

Dear sir/madam,
I see your post on craigslist regarding the K20 engine and gearbox.
I am very interested and I am wondering if it is possible to arrange shipping for the complete package?
If so, what would be the price shipping to the Netherlands?
If it is not possible to ship the whole package, I might still be very interested in the gearbox.
Would you consider selling only the gearbox?
Looking forward hearing back from you!

Thanks!
Niels.

From his loose grasp on the English language Id say he is not a native of N.Ireland. No real way of knowing if he'll keep his word. Also Bank transfer is a one way system with no come back if anything should happen.

I wouldn't be happy dealing with someone who wrote that email. I'd be concerned he couldn't arrange a courier.

If he'd had surgery on his jaw I doubt he would feel up to getting on his emails! Let alone being that rude after you'd asked a legitimate question about secure payment etc.

Smell's a bit funnny to me.

I'd say stay clear of that guy, he could be legit, and you could get a decent motor+tranny, or he could be dodgy and you're out of pocket 2k.

There's plenty more fish in the sea and no point throwing money around when you're not 100% sure :)

For that amount of money I'd be looking to deal direct face to face with someone who is trusted / a company that deals in such things.

or go & collect it from him?

Keep your money man, you arent gonna get that engine if you pay for it

In my opinion Stay clear!! gangster is written all over this from his replies

You should buy of a local jap breaker or honda specialist where you can go and collect the engine and you have some sort of comeback and warranty

Bank transfer means he can basically take your money and give you nothing in return!

lol surely this is evidence enough. " im telling the truth....honest"

Tbh im skeptical about buying anything off a person who cant construct a basic english sentance.

Im not saying thats is sold evidence he is scammimg, i understand english may not be the blokes first language, but you can only go off the information you have at the time and with the ammount of money involved its perhaps best to play it safe...

This sounds like some joker who was messaging me about my mx5.
They had just come out of hospital and would need an agency to collect the car and wanted my bank account details for money transfer.

Needless I told them to get stuffed.

His address is about 5 mile from me, want me scoot over and check it out?

Just stay away. I wouldn't even meet up with this dude to buy that engine. Heard about gangs posting items for sale on sites like gumtree and then mugging the buyers when they come to collect the items that never existed.

At least pay with Paypal if you are not completely sure. I don't think you'll ever see your money again if you just transfer the money from one bank account to another.

Tbh I wouldn't do it, rather spend more money and buy from a legit seller.

That's why you bring your buddies, who happy to look like this...

Just in case **** gets crazy, YOU WILL KNOW WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE!

Lol at above.

There is no reason why any genuine seller wouldn't use PayPal.

Stay away.

That's all well and good bud but if I was scamming/mugging you I wouldn't meet you anywhere near where I lived. Unless you carry a troop of buddies known as the A-team your ****ed. Probably take your car aswell lol
Ok knowing what I look like while your searching for me in Ireland and I'm in London.
For big money items like this it's trusted forum members or retailers.
The rest is more risk than it's worth IMO.
