are ek9 f1 racing clutches any good?

I loved the feel of my exedy stage 1 much more than the OEM honda ITR clutch but it only lasted about 7000 miles.

I couldnt fault its performance, the bite was fantastic - even changing at 8500rpm the next gear - the car felt like it was launching forward when it engaged.

One of the torque springs burst through its casing ending its life ! Couldnt believe how light the clutch felt with the OEM replacement in place - I think i prefered the heavy feel even though it was sore on your knee in heavy traffic.

Wonder if the stage 2 is any better for reliability? I would love to have the feel of the exedy with the honda reliability ! any suggestions?

To put it simply, Exedy stage1 and 2 clutches are hit and miss and they usually only last a few thousand miles when driven hard if that. I have a feeling the F1 clutches would be similar to the exedy. My exedy fell apart after 2k on my dc2 and the Honda clutch now in place of the exedy has done numerous trackdays, drags and is drove every day without a problem!

You can't really go wrong with an OEM Honda Type-R clutch unless you are running serious power. They should last at least 50-70k miles with mixed driving and have more than enough bite:naughty:

The only question I have is does anyone run a lightened flywheel with an OEM clutch and how do they get on with it??

I understand it wouldn't effect clutch performance but I was more interested to whether it altered the longevity of an OEM clutch or not?
Don't suppose there's an earlier flywheel guide thread anyone knows of?

i had a stage 2 f1 raceing clutch with a ligth weight fly wheel on my old civic never had any problems with it. it griped well didn't ack ur leg and did 10,000 miles with it in and the lad i sold my car to still driving it with out a problem.

Cant see a lighter flywheel having any difference on the wear of the clutch, at the end of the day its how you drive it.

The clutch will go through the exact same process no matter how heavy/light the flywheel is.

You get what you pay for at the end of the day

OEM clutches are perfect for most applications, only when you are seriously tracking the car then there is the need for something more hardcore

As mentioned, ACT have a good reputation for high end clutches

Nothing can really beat an ORC or OS giken clutch though, but again comes down to price and application...........

i have exedy stage 1 and did 12,000 miles or so of hard driving and its still fine. as said hit and miss

I'd never buy cheap crap like F1 clutches cause you know you are risking having to splash out cash again.

As for exedy i'd never trust them again after the experience i've had.
