B16 Turbo or K?

B18c1 is that a usdm dc2 engine mate? I also have a complete b18c bottom end sitting here that i could use to increase stroke but would still be a hi comp engine for turbo. Just had a thought how about dropping c4 pistons in the b16b then turbo, would that work or am i being silly.
Its usdm gsr mate, I think it's basically their c4 engine (thats whats in mine). I'm not sure on c4 pistons in b16b but I'd of thought that they would go into the 18c. As it goes I have c4 pistons/rods and eagle rods for b18 if you decide to go for it...

As much as i would love to mate i need to do more research and put a plan together. Im in no rush, at the moment im prepping the car for rockingham in april, i hope you guys can make it.

Either setup will be good, really it comes down to your own personal preference. I used to own a 250bhp K swap dc2, acceleration for a NA engine was immense.

My 16b died due to me using a plastic T-piece for boost control and whilst sitting after a track stint it heatsoaked and melted the plastic shut.
Should have hit boost cut but I'm not getting into that yet.

I do think a b16b Turbo on track can work and be reliable, mine was up until that moment.

a c4 piston on a 16b stroke may end up lowering it too much.

Edit.
I'm getting about 9.6-1 with an ITR piston. C4 would be way too low IMO

This is exactly what i was looking for.
How would you play it, ITR p73 pistons in a b16b or use a complete b18c4/b18c bottom end with b16b head.

I wouldn't bother touching the B16b. Either throw a 16a or 18C4 in. Sell the B16b for silly money instead.

OP, having been in both a k20 crx and a boosted one, they both have there ups and downs, its whatever best suits your needs.
Turbo gets my vote.

As above really, unless you want to keep the original engine or block to the car just a c4 engine with a b16b or 18c head on it.
Whack a turbocharger on that and you'll happily run 350hp(I did exactly that for about 6weeks whilst I waited for parts to build the forged block)

IMO you'd end up with a worse set up lowering the b16b compression down to 9.6 when you can go c4 bottom end and have 10-1 compression and an extra 200cc.
It is something different, but it's different because it's pretty pointless.

Pretty sure a C4 with a b16a/b head is lower comp than 10.1

16b head is the same as an 18c, I think I've heard something about b16a heads and c4 bottoms lowering compression but I'm not sure how much.

Aye jamies a good mate of mine, he was through at sos with the eg getting mapped same time mine was. I'm edinburgh way man only really thro there now and again. Gonna get a central scotland meet organized soon...

Fair point mate. I'm certainly not one to talk about boosted reliability lol.
It's a small world! How is he getting on with that thing? Hope it's still got the windmaster on it!

Murray, my needs are simple. Noise and fun. However the k20 is selling me due to the scope for extra power in the future. Not sure how it could be done for £2500-3000 though?
Thanks for the replies gents.

Can do noise and fun with the standard engine in the car.
You want a k20 so go with that...

Aye he's doing well with it mate. Windmaster is still there but it's on the end of a custom pipe dynamics system. Aonghus mapped it and it made 196hp so he's very happy.

I'm just waiting for the funds to come in but I'll more than likely change my mind and be asking on here again before then Jesse

The noise Jamie's thing makes is incredible! Bet it's not shy now either. I know it needed a new system as it was suffocating the engine in the past.

I k-swapped my car and haven't looked back, for an NA engine it's a good bit ahead of the B-18 but obviously you can make a B18 go better than a k20 with the right parts

It all depends what your after.. NA or turbo and personally for a track car I think NA is a good route to go for reliability without having to spend a fortune. Then again when you go on the hunt for more power NA it costs a lot!

^im inclined to agree with this tbh. Although the drive ability of mine is good enough for me to peddle it about in all sorts of conditions I'm sure it would be better na in that respect.
I couldn't go k20 now, would need to be a big spec na build to keep me happy lol

Tbh, I think my heart was already set on a K20, but then again I guess it depends what may pop up when my funds are released. I'm awful for changing my mind, but neither is exactly a bad choice!

I'm currently 2.5k into my k swap and all o need to have it running is imobiloser bypass or kpro, conversion harness and fpr!

I've bought best of everything so far but if your working in more of a budget a lot of the parts can be had for a fraction of the price I've payed for some if that's how you want to do it! Have a look at my build thread and see what's going on :)

I'll go have a look at that when it's quiet at work today, thanks mate :)
