Hey all wondered if someone could help!
I had my ej9 converted around 6months ago to a b16a2 and the new engine seems to die at 2/2.5k mostly in first and second gear. It almost feels like the cars is running out of fuel. You put your foot down and it stays at the same revs and sounds really lumpy and then it just randomly shoots off after 5 seconds! Also sometimes when it's on idol it runs funny and sounds like its going to stall.
This happens randomly, it can do it in cold or hot, wet or dry weather.
I've replaced the dizzy cap and arm, I've replaced my oil, air and fuel filter and replaced my spark plugs. I've checked my sensors and recently fitted a brand new exhaust.
Any thoughts would be super helpful! Thank you!

Could be lambda or air flow sensor or a bad induction kit could cause this as well i have the same problem an its down to needing an airflow sensor a lambda and my induction kit is dire.

Get a mugen airbox or standard ek/dc airbox an sensor an should be fine.

But could be a different problem

Yeah would that make it drink fuel to?

100%

When my lambda went mine ran like crap and used loads of fuel and same just happened to @RyanSi car misfiring and bogging down, drinking fuel. Changed his lambda and it's now running perfect again :nice:

Yeah had bother twice with lambda sensor! could also be a chance your map sensor is faulty! @Celiaej9

@LoganK Thank you for that. I will change it and go from there.

@oifovo the camber was changed after the engine was put in. We did think about the timing maybe being out a tooth but wouldn't timing being out cause the car to always run lumpy?
The fault I've got is very intermittent.

@RyanSi it always seems to start with no problems. And it doesn't drink any oil what so ever, even on the high mileage the car does, I make sure a check it every couple of weeks.

Different engine (D14), but I know when I caught my lambda sensor and snagged it while changing manifolds (opps) my car ran like crap through some of the rev range and was awful for fuel.

Thank you :) will get it changed :)

Unplug the lambda - if it stops causing issues its that. It does sound 100% like either engine management or timing. Was the distributor timing set correctly for instance?

I expect youre 100 miles away but I could diagnose it if youre NW. Otherwise someone else might be near..?

In any case it is unlikely to ne anything major.

I had very similar problems bad flat spots between 2k -3.5k rpm bad fuel consumption and sometimes bad idling turned out to bad lambda sensor worth checking out as said above!
