ok. so i have just swapped a 98 b16b into my 96 civic dx.(y7 non vtec) we used the stock y7 harness for the swap. adding vtec and and the iacv. now everything checks out good. but when we start the car up. to even make it stay idling it needs the throttle to be wide open! and it will only stay at about 1000rpm. some one help me out. thanks.

RPM is controlled by ECU using parameters how much air you supply to engine, and how much fuel you deliver. Ignition should not be the case here.
But you should try to explain more in detail.

ECU gets info - no AIR, no Throttle
Put of connector and disable TPS sensor. See if it is sending wrong info to ecu that you have not pressed pedal enough.

ECU gets info - no fuel
Check how did you wired injectors.
Check fuel pressure.

ECU don't care about you or engine any more - Try to change the ecu.

Also you have to know that Y wiring has lot of differences.

Actual you can disconnect lot of sensor and engine will run on more than 1000 rpm or variate.

Do you have any CEL's. Start troubleshooting by trying to pull codes off the ECM that might clue you into finding a fault. Jump the service connector underneath the passenger dashboard and see what you find.

so far we have double checked all the wiring. added new plugs,wires,cap,rotor,.. it doesnt read any CELs . tried my friends p72 ECU. checked timing, still no luck. been 3 days of testing stuff and still nuthin..

Did you check to see the T.belt is on correctly that the crank and camshafts are correctly alligned?

timing was good. my friend said i should get a civic ex harness so the vtec was wired from the factory. we've double checked all the wires and everything checks out. does anyone else think its some kind ov issue with our wiring? and another thing when we got the swap the tps sensor from the b was broke so we put on the 1 from my d-series and put it on.. idk im getting fed up with it. :angry2: hopefully we figure it out soon or im going to give japan star a call and see if they have another one in stock and try that out mabey... well some1 shed some light on this for me... thanks

You have to do wiring carefully. Take the book, there are lots of download links for Civic Si with B16A2 engine. They have explained SI wiring P2T ECU. This is OBD2B. Measure values on sensor and compare with those in Book (service manual). For example it will tell you that TPS have to give you 4,5 V when full open throttle body, or so. Also Type R think to have max 47 Psi of fuel pressure. Also check if you have find all ground points. It is very important to find all G spots (as when you examine woman :) ). Some sensor will not work at all if not grounded.

well i dont have much advise for you but i did a ctr swap in my dx this weekend using an ex harness and had zero problems... so if you dont figure it out maybe u just need to find a different harness or have a shope do the wiring

im headed to a friends house tonight to pick up an ex harness and try that. im also taking his y8 head for my girls 2000 dk hatch. should be a long night. but hopefully the ctr will live by the end of it.... wish me luck.
