Hey all, looking to see if someone with a factory EK9 can shed some light on some things for me.

Recently swapped in a B16B motor and Trans into my 00 SiR (Canadian EM1) Pics cause everyone loves pics

Car is now up and running on a factory 96 EK9 ECU.

im scratching my head a bit when it comes to EVAP and some of the Vacuum lines. So some questions below:

1)Does the factory Stock EK9 have a EVAP canister? This is the large black canister sitting below the fuel filter (at least on LHD cars). It should
Have a few Vacuum lines to it.

2) Can someone trace the vacume line from here and tell me where it goes?

This is the the line on top of the throttle body, right next to the MAP sensor.

Thanks for any help!

No one can trace that line in a stock EK9? No help at all?

hi mate you will have to bare with, forum isnt super active like it used to be years ago. I can look at my ek9 tomorrow afternoon, (about 20 hours from now) if that helps?

Helps a ton. What I'm trying to figure out is if:

A) EK9s have an Evap system
B) where that line in the pic goes two.

If you can post shots of whats on the fire wall and where that line goes it would be a HUGE help.

I feel like all forums are in the same boat, with less traffic mostly because of Facebook and such. I'm not really a fan of Facebook, and I think forums are way better for storing and sharing information about things like cars. I also realize that I'm old enough that this is probably a "back in my day" rant lol.

Big thanks!

I’d assume that is the Evap as on most cars I’ve owned the evap is at the bulkhead

still relatively new to my car and I’ve never even looked at that myself yet

Thats a huge help, thank you.

So the EK9 does have an EVAP system and charcoal canister at the firewall.

So this leads into another question. From where that line starts and where it ends on the canister, is there a Solenoid attached somewhere? The North American EM1 has a solenoid to control that purge canister.

I’ll have another look in the morning for you but I do not remember the line having a solenoid anywhere down it

Cool, again thank you.

So if it doesn't have a solenoid on that line but there are three lines, that means the canister is just constantly venting to the port on the throttle body.

So it should be:

1 line to a hard line that runs to the fuel tank
1 line to the port on the the throttle body
1 line is the vent line, should run back under the car (or there about).

Please let me know what you find, its been a big help already.

this cannister is supposed to collect the evaporations of the gasoline that are not burnt from the induction and leading them back in the fuel tank as they are created back in wet form , and that leads to some fuel economy....

I know what it’s actually for, what I’m trying to figure out is how it’s setup in an EK9.

The North American EM1 I have swapped the B16B into is setup a bit different.

If I can trace all the lines off the canister in the EK9 to where they go, and if they have any solenoids attached, I can recreate it in this EM1 or get rid of it entirely.

what actually started this was trying to track down a bit of an oily smell from the engine bay. I’m not sure I think it’s the EVAP, but it’s really the only thing that’s setup diffrent than a factory EK9 right now so I’d like to try and sort it regardless.

Again, any help tracing these lines is very much appreciated.

i think if you remove it completely you will have evaporations comming out of the induction.....

sorry about the late reply, I’ve been a little busy with things

so the larger hose you can see in the first picture goes direct to a hard line, probably to the tank although that’s as much as I had time for when I looked

also the pancake PCV type thing on the top, small hose that comes from that goes to the inlet manifold where i have photographed

the 3rd line is the one we spoke about last time which goes to the nipple near the throttle body

For sure the hardline is to the tank. So thats solved, and the same as the 00 EM1 over here.

Just to be clear, both the other lines you show just go from the pot over to the manifold, no Solenoid, attachments, or electronics in between correct?

I'm not totally sure what you mean, but i assume your saying the tank will be venting to atmosphere.

That would be correct, and to be honest I'm not super concerned about it. I'm more concerned if I do try and hook this up like the EK9 and getting too much crap pulled into the intake. Some discussions when people have removed it that they find lots of dirt and garbage from the EVAP canister that has been being pulled in.

I'd LIKE to hook it up exactly like the EK9 system, but if that cant be done on this EM1 because of differences, Id rather pull the whole system. While I believe we do need to take care of our environment, the car is mostly a track day and fun day car, so its not that big of a problem.

No worries, and yes you are correct, nothing in between at all, just lines

i was wondering if u can open the canister somehow and inspect it if it needs some cleaning....

Thanks for doing that work, thats a huge help.

Not sure. I'm betting its a way better option to just purchase a new one, but I haven't checked the prices on them.

I asked my mechanic, its not possible to open it but its just a sponge witg some charcoal and its lifeless , nothing to be cleaned in there

SiR-R, any luck figuring out what to do with the purge solenoid? I'm in the California and recently picked up a 98 hatch that has been BAR certified, but one of the previous owners gutted the Evap system. I'm trying to put it all back to pass emissions for the title transfer. Tracing my wiring harnesses, I can find a plug (dark reddish brown) that mates to the large charcoal canister I got from an EM1, but don't see a pigtail for the Evap purge valve.

Also, unrelated, but do you know what is supposed to plug into this?
