Before anyone says i have searched but cant find a similar problem to mine...

Right so known for a while the car has been slightly smokey in tec near limiter. However it became worse around knockhill..

I done a track session and the car was generally in and out VTEC for a good 1hr-130hr of contanst hard driving..

I recently had a oil change around 1/2k ago. Using 10/40W

Anyway, i noticed it mainly gets worse around 8K+ to 9k but generally bit smokey into vtec, it got quite bad on the overrun coming down the revs into the corners. I AM NOT USING ALOT OF OIL about 1ltr every 2 months. mixed driving. which is very strange.

Skip to 1.20 and you can see it at its worst.

I am wondering if i just need valvestem oil seals or do i need rings, ultimately a rebuild. if so how much is a rebuild kit, i have a man who will do the build for me at good price.

Is it possible for the vacuum to pull the oil through the breather?

jimbo would you def say that by the video? think its worth replacing them then seeing what its like?

Take exhaust manifold off and shine a torch into the cylinder ports. If their is shiney black marks on the valve stem then seals have gone, I it's just a full black then it's not seals

I had the same problem and my local garage said its definitely the rings, they said if it was the valve stems it would only smoke if you were to coast in gear and then put your foot down

Piston rings smokes on start up and on over run. Think if the rings are leaking oil is going to to be there constantly.Every b18c will smoke a little especially with decats. burny get a re mappable ecu most of thats were the spoon ecu, tryed my mates ecu for 300 miles and it went. As said if you wanna sell the engine back to me let me know.

It's valve stem seals!! I've had and sorted this issue many times for friends and myself. The valve stem seals harden over time(vulanised rubber material) and lose there elasticity and are no longer able to seal the valve high RPM.

Piston rings maintain compression not therefore saying 'the piston rings are gone' when it smokes is not true, the oil control/scraper ring would normally be the suspect if smoke is prodomenetly present.

If the piston rings/oil control ring were gone, it would normally smoke quite heavy on initial cold startup and throughout the rev range depending how bad they were, oil consumption would be quite significant.

i had the same problem smoking like a train when in vtec was the piston rings but its best if you juat change valve stem seals and piston rings

do a compression check, it if turns out okay, you can do a leak down or just shine the light as mentioned earlier to look at the valve stems.

I'd say 1 litre of oil every 2 months is a lot! My b18 genuinely never used a drop but also smoked on knockhill on the overrun, as said valve stem seals!

My b18 doesn't use a drop on the road, on track it puffs alittle after high revs over run, like arrive at a corner at 8.5k come off the throttle for a second then back on again it'll puff abit of blue lol

The how much oil was a rough guess tbh. i keep checking weekly so might no even be as much as that.
