b20 turbo ek9....bare shell up

Literally not done much on my build for ages! Been really busy with work and studies which unfortunately come first :(

But started back up working on it again. Also had a few chances to the project:

No longer using a b20 engine, iv decided to go to a b16 as it seems to be more cost effective. I recently started to strip/build a b16 engine i had.

(seem to of lost alot of pictures off my camera too :( )
I will let some pics do the talking now.

The b16 got all stripped down, cleaned all the block ect

Fitted:
New ALC race bearings all round
ARP bolts all round
golden eagle rods
wiseco low comp pistons
ITR oil pump
ITR water pump
Basically refreshed everything.

Gave the bores a fresh honing and gapped the piston rings in correctly/aligned

Pistons and rods are second hand which i got for a steal! But are in good enough condition

Cleaned them all up and polished the tops

One of the main reasons the project got put on hold was due to moving into a new workshop, so dont think im just steeling someone else's photos ;)

Anyways started work on the cylinder head

Also treaded myself to a brand new precision turbo :D

I had previously done some work on the cylinder head porting wise which i will expand on later as i dont have the photos to hand.

Build the valve train back up into the head.

Lapped all the valves into which is always a fun little task (not)

Also used ARP head studs

Put the head back onto the engine and tightened it all down correctly

Im using ITR cams for the build too

I only use Lucas assembly lube for fresh engines as its really nice to work with! Defiantly rate the stuff

And thats where i stand at the minute on the engine front. Civic currently looks like this!

holy crap this is coming along very nicely! would love to get stuck into an engine build. :nice:

Top work there, credit where its due. Looks like you have a great workshop there aswell to do everything in :nice:

Gave the 9 abit of a clean as dust seemed to be collecting, also took it off the trailer for the first time in months!

Just so you know the right hight is not set up at all neither is any of the suspension geo, just incase you guys wonder whats going on ;)

The engine isnt far off being built now! i know taken its time, iv just been soo busy :(

Checked and adjusted all the valve clearances

Aslo welded up the rocker cover to allow me to fit catch tank/breather set up

Has a play round with fitting the turbo on the manifold ect too

DONT worrie im not using that ebay manifold, im going to fabricate my own, im just using it as a mock so i can work out where i want to place my turbo ect

Welded a oil return into the sump for the turbo

Also a sump baffle,

I will have some more updates shortly :)

Well after doing more and more research it did seem that using a b16 would be the most cost effective way of doing what I wanted. My engine build will be strong enough to handle more power than I will ever want too should be good :)

:drive:

Was looking forward to seeing a boosted b20 but a boosted b16 is also good haha

Good work
Wish I had the knowledge and space to do a complete rebuild on my ej9
