Hi there! as i only use my EK9 during summer and not too much either then, i decided to install a battery cutoff switch to prevent battery from discharging during longer non-driving periods. Something like this:

Now i was wondering where to install it? i would prefer some place in the engine bay near the battery, but haven't seen any good locations so far. of course i also would prefer to not cut and drill around in my absolutely mint engine bay :D

any ideas, pictures or inputs?

thanks

well that's what i do now, but it's actually a bit complicated because i have the caar in a different garage then my tools. also i usually want to drive it "spontaneous" when the weather is nice so i don't want to go and pick up tools in one garage and than mount the battery in my second garage before i can take it for a ride :D
So i thought a battery cutoff switch was quite nice. have seen this on a few other cars too and for me it makes sense in my case.. ;-)

Good enough idea. I bought one of there for my boat a few weeks ago for under 10 euro. Was only lookin at it the other days saying I might install one in my car. Will also help prevent it been stolen. Good idea

thanks guys, that one looks good, but i'd like to have it somewhere in my engine bay. i've seen some guys just adding a kind of metal-plate / box near the battery where the switch was installed.. just looking for some ideas :D

For racing purposes they're usually installed inside the car so the driver can switch it off main power in case of a crash, damage, fire, etc...

but i would prefer it somewhere hidden in the engine bay :D any more pictures?

im still wondering about this topic. but now i stumbled upon this:

It's made in japan, costs less then 20 bucks and seems just to be installed between one of the battery terminals and the cable that run's to that terminal. think this is a great solution, easy install, invisbile form the outside, no cable rerouting, and a simple turn of the handle to cut power from the battery. no need for tools (which i forget at home everytime i want to do something at the car..). think this is a great item.
what do you think?

Get one of those mate, we have one in our MX-5. Works really well cause we don't use the car much. Just undo the tap when your not going to use the car for a while and then tighten it back up when your ready to go again :).

The one we have also works as an immobiliser. It has an optional in-line fuse which blows if you try to start the engine without the tap being tightened. Works especially well in the Mazda cause the battery is in the boot with no access without a key

@ e5k1m0 Sam: THanks for your input - sounds great :) I live in the swiss countryside so thieves are no problem :D specially with the only EK9 in the country it would be fairly hard to do something with it :)

@ tama666: The problem is the car is stored in a big public garage with no access to a private power plug, so i have to unplug the battery and can't have it charged all winter long ;)

Would it not be easier/cheaper disconnecting the negative battery terminal? Maybe use like a butterfly nut instead of a normal nut for ease of removal.

well i think a butterfly nut maybe costs 7 bucks and this terminal switch 15 bucks.. so i think this is a more stylish solution. but at least it's a good idea with the butterfly nut, never thought about that :)

thanks for the info. do these also work without the immobiliser (just used as a battery power switch?)

i sell these at my work, they are only like £8. for the hastle of undooing a nut every time u wanna dissconnet it id just use one of these buddy, so much easyer.

I have a alarm on my car with a fob. If I had one of these cuts off's would this mess with the alarm and not be able to unlock my doors because of the battery being disconnected?

You will have to put a hard wired feed from the postive terminal to the alarm/locking system to run it,if you want to run the disconnector terminal setup
