I think my battery has had it life!

Left the car for two days and it struggled to start up this morning!

I've already recharged the battery couple of weeks back.

Does anybody know the correct battery to buy for the EK4/9?

I was going to get a EU/Uk one, but the connectors are thicker on the battery and won't fit the cables from the engine.

Is it best to get a JDM one or change the connectors and put an EU/UK one in?

Thanks

dont really think it makes much difference mate.. all in all the ek9 battery is very very small if you ask me. so unless ure majorly worried about weight etc just get what u can.should be same as ek4 one id imagine.

Thing is, Im happy to go get an EU battery, only thing is, the connections from the engine won't fit the EU battery terminal connections. The connections are too thick!

is it then best to change the connections? and buy the EU battery?

i havent done it but i wouldnt say it would be bad in any way really. certainly easier for future changes as well.so if i couldnt sort the exact battery id do the same. know someone who did and he hasnt had any hassle.

hi mate,

i had the same problem with my ek9 and i went to honda and they quoted me like 400 pound for a new one and they said it would take up to 4 weeks and i was like no way. i searched around a few places and i got one Andrew page it was a bosch one and it had small terminals on it for jap import cars. i dont know if you have a company in your area but just do a search on the web and there might be one close.

what!! thats insane.. we bought a new battery for my brothers DC2 from honda a month ago for £46 and it would fit an EK9 its just slightly larger,,and it was on the shelf!!

You should get a lightweight, drycell battery and save yourself some serious weight!
Odyssey Batteries | Battery Specifications
I recommend the PC545 MJT @ 12.6 pounds, or if you need slighty more reserve capacity a PC680 MJT. MJ stands for "metal jacket" for automotive use, and T stands for the screw-in terminals you will need, and 545 or 680 represents the cold cranking amps and battery size.
A carbon hood will save you 15 lbs or so, the PC545 saved me 18.5 lbs for 1/5 the price.

Was that from a honda dealer? Thats a really good price!

I've just got one put it, its smaller that the Stock one I had, not sure how it weights etc.

Issue with my car was that if I kept the car idle for 2 days or more, I would lose cranking power!

Had the old one tested and it was 12.4v and only 40%!

I'm so glad I've changed it now! and really appreciate the replies.

Thanks

heh, I went for the S2000 Battery! lol

The factory dry-cell for the EK9 is now discontinued!

I agree with Dino, I'll go for the light weight battery, but if you want a normal battery, you should get the one with the best price and that also gives you a 3 year warranty or better.

In my country when you buy a battery they ask you for the displacement of your motor, based on that they give you the warranty. good luck.

I have a different ignition system and electric water pump running off of my car, otherwise I would have stuck with a lightweight battery.

EK9turbo...Is the S2000 battery the same size as EK9? Terminals a direct fit?
Mine measures 125mm width/180 length/205 height. Had to roll start mine this week, time for a new one :((

I got one no bother from my local motor factors, TMS. The only difference was the weight as the EK9 one is mega light. It cost me £50

No mate just a replacement EK9 one. It might even be an s2000 one but i aint sure. It is slightly bigger but not much at all and slightly heavier. I think the make of it is Banner.

the S2000 one takes up the full battery tray, the terminals that are crimped onto the wiring have to be peeled off and new terminals like auido ones fitted

Updating the ek9 Battery post. 38B20R Battery, discontinued and hard to find a replacement. I threw the battery out not knowing it will be irreplaceable, Im sure a battery specialist could have refurbished it for me.

I have to replace it with this battery from honda, its small at 7" and the posts are reversed: It might be from the Honda Fit US/Canada model.
