Blinx's Official Intake AND Exhaust Thread

has anyone personally 'dynoed' their setup with blox velocity stacks? are there actual gains?

also, will it fit the where the AEM hybrid pipe leads to, just in front of the fender well, and above the bottom plastic thats attached with the bumper?(i know you guys know what i am talking about. or is it too big that i may have to resort to a SRI?so i can re-locate it in the engine bay?

thanks

PS I have a 3inch pipe AEM Hybrid on a 16b. ek hatch

Ask youself my friend would i write a thread and claim it to be one of the best setups would there be no gains? Velocity stacks have been used for years in all forms of professional motorsports including F1, in short yes there absolutely are gains to be had.

Hi Blinx, thanks for your kind info sharing.

I have a stock B16A motor which is daily and street driven. Currently I am looking for a suitable header which will provide good low & mid end torque with smooth exhaust flow till the redline. And also with a good ground clearance.
I notice that most of the JDM header (4-2-1) for B16A have a 2" collector only whereas 2.38" for B16B/B18C. I am understood from your thread that 2.5" is recommended.
I am planning to have a good header to match with the Mugen Twinloop Exhaust system but it also come with 2.38" piping only.
Please kindly advice which header should I get:
1. B16A with 2" collector
2. B16B/B18C with 2.38" collector
3. Custom made header with 2.5" collector

By the way, will B16B/B18C header cause any ground clearance problem when it fit to B16A engine which have shorter cylinder block?

Please kindly advice accordingly.

Thanks a lot..

2.38" ID is usually same as 2.5" OD, so either 2.38 or 2.5" is fine :)

Stock B16B header went on my B16A with no issues whatsoever, but then my car isn't low. Back when it was lowered 40mm it did used to catch the stock 2" collector so the B16B would probably have been worse.

Hi Blinx & Kozy, thanks a lot for your advice.
O...i c, 2.5" system that you guys means here is 2.5" OD collector. So that means JDM header that stated 2.38" is the actually their ID which is equivalent to 2.5" OD as per your recommendation. Thanks for clarification, cheers!
(Sorry newbie here...)

Since my car is lowered, 2 finger gap between tire & fender...so I need to get the B16A system then....2.25" OD, need to scarify performance for ground clearance:angry:there is ton of speed breaker around my area:((

You said, "-I think most vtec engines 1.6-1.8 stock or mildly moded (stock internals) are good with 2.5" with a high flow cat or no cat at all, you can get away with a 2.25 if you have NO cat but i just don't see why you would choose such a small exhaust."

I have a completely stock B16B, I foresee myself boosting. Should I just go ahead and go for 3+" exhaust piping cat-back for now and save myself money down the road or what would be my best interest using the car as a DD for now and my build+boost later on? Thanks

you can go 3" but it'll propably be louder than a 2.5" system. 2.5" is fine anyway for a turbo build, thats what most standard evo's have and they arent short on power! :naughty:

On a completely stock B16b there's no point in a 3" system. 3" is mostly used on high powered k20/1.8/2l + turbo builds.

Unless you have plans to go down this route in the future, I would get a 2,5" or even 2,75" system.

If you don't mind losing power on a stock B16B, to save money for not having to buy a new exhaust when going turbo, you can go 3". But you will probably lose power cause the diameter will be too big to keep the exhaust gasses up to speed and that also diminishes the scavenging effect.

like i said, i foresee myself boosting in the future. but advice was given to just wait until i go boost then decide on which size exhaust i should go with my setup, and keep oem for now. thanks for the advice. cheers

so b18c6 with i/h/e is best with 2.5"?

thank's for the info btw, very handy thread!

Thanks for the thread makes me want to change my current system for a 2.5" custom system

do the bends & curves of the pipes make any difference in terms of power & sound?
