Boost controller - IBC-R or AVC-R

This isn't for a Honda but I know there's a lot of clever boost aficionados on here. Does anyone have any experience or opinions on the Gizzmo IBC-R and Apexi AVC-R?

In a bit of a catch 22 as the tuner I'm using prefers the AVC-R but the person doing my engine loom doesn't like the idea of splicing into the TPS (required for AVC-R, not for IBC-R) in case of signal disruption. The tuner doesn't think this will be an issue but is happy to use whatever controller I choose.

Price wise, the IBC-R appeals more - not even sure if the AVC-R is made anymore?

Any input appreciated
 
Been a while since I wired mine in but I'm pretty sure I've never wired TPS into an AVC-R, I've had two on two different cars aswell.

Just in the car now messing about with wires so if you've got any questions about my install nows the time lol
Do you plan on using any boost by throttle functions or anything like that? You may be able to just leave that unwired and still be able to run the controller as you wish.

From a quick refresh over the controllers functions I believe it's just to monitor the throttle % as the avcr has a display for this.
I'm with your tuner on the TPS signal being perfectly fine aswell.
I've not had any experience with gizmo stuff but I do rate the apexi unit so I would try to run that personally.
They don't make them anymore so it's an eBay job I'm afraid, I got my black edition in real good condition for about 200

Was trying to work out what the hell it wanted TPS for but makes sense if it's to display throttle position on the dashboard screen - can live without that. So looks like it needs RPM and VSS input to do it's stuff. I gather it has 3 settings inc wastegate pressure and it can do boost by gear?

Has your car got drive by wire? You could tap Into that if you wanted.

Sounds good to me and the tuner obviously know their way round it. Time to put my eBay skills to the test lol. Hopefully a black one comes up - the silver one looks proper vintage. :nono:
 
Yeah I agree, I had the blue/silver one first time. OK if it's going to be hidden lol
 
I'm also on an avcr, old but good! Can do boost by gear, boost duty etc. People are scared of them as they seem daunting when installing and setting up but after a few days you get used to it. Dead easy to wire in, I wired mine into the conversion harness between my loom and ecu so I didn't have to splice into the original loom.
