what are people using

my B16a could do with a fresh set and was told to get ACL but hearing mixed reviews on them

anyone got any experience they would like to share

How do you know you need a fresh set? Have you measured the tolerances?

was told that id be best to replace my big end bearings...dont think they were measured

just looking for some guidance as to what people have experience with

Honda are the best bearings you can fit, friend of mine had ACL bearings in his DC2 and developed a knock after a trackday which turned out to be a badly damaged rod bearing. We don't know who built the engine or what the tolerances were like tho

Are you building your b16a then, new cams, pistons etc? I had thought about doing a build with my b16a but its usually more cost effective to buy a Type-R motor

nahh i was just advised to think about getting a set of bearing i never seen them myself

not sure what the clearances are

thanks for the info about your mate.....

I've seen Honda main bearings with 160k and still unmarked and working perfectly.

If you don't have any marks on the bearings or crank and no knocking then leave them be, Honda engines are most reliable when they are left alone and well serviced. Genuine Honda bearings are also a fortune to buy and there's 3 different sizes iirc and marked with a colour code for each size

my b16a has 220k km so id of thought they would be due a change

if you dont have a problem , dont change them
i think OEM is the best.

Honda bearings have colourcodes for exact sizings whereas ACL are sized as Honda greens and so don't give the same tolerance choice, but then Honda bearings are far, far more expensive.

That's down to engine assembly; not the bearings.

That is true but there is no way that ACL duraglide will last the as well as Honda bearings with the tolerances

His car burnt a lot of oil on the track so Im thinking that the rod bearings were starved of oil while cornering which resulted in the bearing damage. The crank was unmarked when removed

Maybe not. But they'll still be good for over 100k providing everything else is fine. They make good bearings (although I'm not a fan of their "race" bearings).

Why you not like race bearings? Too hard?

If you want the longevity of a factory engine go for the Honda bearings .

Reving it high all the time like on trackdays the accuracy of the rod bearing clearance is pretty important for them to last.

I can get them fairly fast for 1/2 the price a dealer charges over here , if you need them :nice:

Yep. They are OK providing you can keep everything absolutely spotless on assembly. I'd imagine also that you'd get slightly higher wear on the crank journals.

I would check what bearings are on it at the moment, if they are within tolerance for green sized bearings then I'd use ACL and save some money. For the price of a B16b/c I'd say use Honda but B16a's aren't worth much to begin with.

that's true but id rather stick with the B16a that I have as it already shits all over b16bs.....and with a map id say would be rubbing the bumpers of b18c's

Yep, that may be the case, but if you're trying to say the B16a is a better designed engine then I'd say you're wrong.

Must admit im in the same boat ish. I have my original SiRII b16a sat in bits as I stripped it when I fitted the B18. There was nothing wrong with it at all, wish I hadn't touched it, if anything just rebuilt the head. Just want to keep it more for sentimental reasons as It never let me down. But the bearings have a little light scoring and the odd marks from storing and transporting stuff, I wouldn't want to reuse them. Have hear the ACL race bearings are harder and give more chance of crank damage if anything happens and that the Duraglides are a safer option. But seems hard to find Duraglides these days.

I was going to plastigauge the crank up and see if it is far from the greens. Then go from there. Hopefully they will be close to green and I can try and find a set of duraglides. Yet to price up Honda bearings, what is the average going rate these days??
