Guys,

Off to the ring in a few weeks, our EK9 Cup car has the following brake setup.

EK4 VTi Hub / Calipers (F&R)
EBC Turbo Grooved Dimpled Discs (F&R)
Yellow Stuff Rear Pads
Carbone Lorraine RC6 Front Pads
1" Master Cylinder
Tilton Bias Adjuster.

Discs are 3 track days old, very little wear.
Rear Pads are the same
Front Pads a new.

At Donington we were going through a set of yellowstuff front pads each track day. Bias was set 3 clicks forward.

I know the Ring is less harsh on brakes than a small circuit, but with 2 drivers and 2 day open pit lane, the car will get used alot.

Based on experience should I take a new set of discs and pads with me? At Donington we were doing 25 minute stints, Ring will a max of 2 laps at a time I'd expect.

Also doing Ring GP but 15 min sessions with 15 min cool down in between. (Just 1hr worth of driving)

Cheers
Jay

I doubt youd have an issue...but why risk it?

Well its over £500, I'm unsure how the RC6 will wear the Front Discs and I'm unsure how the rear pad will wear.

When i get back i was looking at brake upgrades, rather not buy items just to sell them on when i get back. :s

You shouldn't have an issue, but for the cost of some mtec discs you may aswell.
Front pads will be fine

Well the only thing you could possibly need are front pads. Get some yellows for 65quid and leave it at that.
See how you get on with the rc6...I expect you wont need better brakes.

My ds2500 have managed 2 trackdays, 42mins of quali, a 40min race and at least one trackday before I bought the car. - And the spec of our cars isnt that different.

If your travelling far always best to cover everything, your set up should be good but for the cost take spares, nothing worse than a basic problem costing you track time.

My rc6 are hardly touched after 100 rally stage miles,I would say you have to do a lot of laps to wear them out

Cheers for the comments guys.

I know when i took my brothers stock EK9 to the ring last year it was fine with Yellowstuff Pads, did about 6 Laps a day.

Only concern was there are now 2 of us driving, and each day the car will be driven for around 28 laps a day. (2 days)

And i dont know how harsh RC6 are on Discs's, from what i have read, some people say they are fine, some people say they eat discs alive.

:S

pads should be fine mate

Drop me a PM if you want some parts to take with you. Should be able to sort out a decent price.

But you still need to look at a proper upgrade

You don't. You just go out and give them death.

I ran RC6 first time I was at the ring, I hated them - they were either on or off which was terrible in the wet with no ABS

but yeah they are a very hard compound so won't need to worry about wearing them out

i did DN9 in my M3 last year and even slowing down 1500kg from 150+ MPH the pads lasted fine and I managed 40 laps last year

that was running AP brakes and Pagid RS29 pads (****ing amazing pads)

do you run any cooling to the front brakes? if you are running 282mm brakes on a civic I would highly recommend it to prolong the life of your brakes. even better is to go up to the oem 300mm setup, the size of the 282mm discs is the downfall

used to run spoon calipers and went through loads of pads on track, swapped out to a proper race brembo setup with very wide 300mm discs and not only was the braking performance much improved but as was the wear rate

I know what you mean about being on and off. But I managed to modulate fine enough.

I've just done 5laps last month with my EK4, i've got an 282mm ITR brake setup and RC6 front and rear. First i didn't lightened my car, full stock itr interior, 2 bags for the week for 2 passengers, water, oil and some tools ... so not so light.

with 2 passengers and lap times arround 8:36-8:50 BTG i've worn 1mm on front discs, but most of it inside, so add some cooling stufs.

For u take one other set of front discs, and maybe some pads. :nice:

Our car has EK4 Hubs and discs mate 262/242mm discs F/R.

hmmmm that will explain why you're trashing pads then!

I would add some cooling, BUT remember and give a wee left foot feather of the brakes after taking the main straight & first left hander - amazing how cold your brakes get after that!!!!
