burning oil... like a lot

worst case scenario, its piston rings, or its valves... anyone any idea what the cost would be for repairing?? am i looking at a full rebuild?

Cost would depend on what's wrong. Valves would be head off, re-lap or replace. Big job but not too bad. Piston rings would be a bottom end re-build probably.

u should try motul oil it very good, ul be able to buy it of sim auto on ere sound guy and always good to deal with..

by the sounds of it ul need pistion rings and valve steam oil seals..
wen ur in there, ul replace head gasket, oil& filter, coolant, timing belt..
so with parts and labour ul be lookn at few hunderd to get it repaired..

but get it a compression test done first!!!

That is a lot. I burn about 1litre per 1000miles and after 2 rebuilds I give up!

Fudge it off and get another engine or motor

id feel bad selling it to someone and then it blowing up on them a month later like!

theres a motor factors up the road form me Brady-DC2 said does sell it so i will get it from there and check again...

im praying its just because it was lying up for a few months though, ive put well over 1200 into the car in the last 2 months on getting it right.. now this happens!

will shop around for somewhere to get a compression test done.

Serious? Any modern car shouldn't need babying like this.

Yes off course i do, i built the car to race so u need to be sure all fluilds is ok.. and u can keep a eye if ur car burns oil!!!!
one week or a month is way to long, well if u use ur v-tec!!

A ''little bit of smoke'' in VTEC means nothing, as soon as you get up to speed it's hard to see any smoke as the rear window is tinted and it disperses too quickly... Find a looooong hill, drive down in lets say 3rd or maybe even second gear in the following manner:
1) Get the car up to speed and rev it up to at least 7000 rpm, or more.
2) Let it roll down the hill with your foot OFF the gas pedal, leave it in gear.
3) When you get at the bottom of the hill, step on gas and check your rear view mirror, if you see a lot of smoke your engine has a problem....

yeah i can even see the smoke through the tints, so maybe it is more than im letting myself think... passed an emissions test there the other day though :/

but will definitely give this a try...

a few of the people i have diced with have said its a bit smokey, just havent seen it myself

im gettin 32/33MPG with an average amount of vtec... myt just cut my losses and try sell on.

You can't have much faith in it.

Sounds like your running a 2-stroke engine.

itll be either rings or valve stem seals both cheap to buy and if you take engine out yourself it shouldnt be to costly to replace. My fully built b18c uses next to no oil at all, even at a track day where its getting used all day itll still be sitting at the top of the dipstick and i ran my jordan on a 5w40 oil and it didnt use any either,id recommend a compression test and then id get the b18 a refresh and your good to go :)

If it's going through that much oil then your rings have probably had it. You won't get away with fitting new rings either if the cylinders have gone out of round which is very common on the 1.8 so the bores will need to be checked and if found to be out of round your only option is oversized pistons.

I only say this cause i have learn't the hard way trying to resolve problems and they end up being a money pit.

Simples be honest

if the compression test is fine what would i put it down to?

what kind of €€ would i be looking for parts and labour?

That will depend on what parts you go for and who you go to. You talking 1k+ easy for rebuild with over sized pistons.

Problem with compression test is, your compression rings might be fine but your oil control rings on piston could be well worn so even if the compression test shows that everything is ok from a "compression" point of view it doesn't mean that the oil rings aren't worn.

does anyone in ireland know anyone who carries out this sort of work and what kind of price id be looking at?? i have the car up for sale now as it passed the nct yesterday but i really dont want to sell it, and i imagine an engine rebuild would make it hold its value for a few years anyway.

from what i gather, this is the list of things i will need to have done...

0.5 Oversize genuine/generic honda pistons and rings
Full headgasket and sump gasket set
Valve stem oil seals
Full set of ACL duraglide bearings
Ngk-r sparkplugs
Crank seal kit
New blueprint timing belt

Machine bore the block
Skim the head
Skim the block
Polish the crank
Valves reseated in head

Full building of engine.
