Can YOU save an EK9?

Those are not for sale unless bought with the shell sorry

Yeah, I'd urge everyone who's never done so to take off the side skirts and wheel arch liners and make sure there's no nasty surprise waiting. The shell looks fine on the outside! My new shell will be here Thursday 6th so this needs to be gone by then, I haven't had any firm interest so I'll start stripping it down. Makes me sad but needs must!

I've started to strip the shell, steering rack has been provisionally sold but I'll have following for sale soon:
5 stud hub conversion
Eibach springs + EK9 shocks
EK9 subframe
Suspension arms - FR/R, upper and lower. I'm gonna say all bushes will need replacing but could be handy if someone wants to have poly bushes pressed in and just swap them. Will also need cleaning and a lick of paint...
I'll make a proper for sale thread once all the bits are off the car, but feel free to PM in the meantime. If there are any random bits you're after and think I might have those let me know! Sadly she'll get scrapped next week :(

Held off saying so...but the shell is a right mess and scrap is all its good for. Glad you are reshelling - much better plan for you than driving that.
No amount of work would have permanently halted the tin worm here.

LOL, I bet this is probably better than half of Civics on UK roads. As I said, it looks worse than it is, it would be very easy for me to dress it up, stick it on eBay and nobody would know. Yes, it is far from perfect, but most certainly could have been fixed, witnessing classical Beetle restorations will teach you that as long as there's at least a little bit more metal than rust it can be saved :) This is actually what I said to Rambo - I'm positive this could be saved, however the EK9 is not yet a rare enough car for anyone to bother. As for permanently halting the tin worm - unless you live in Colorado stopping the tin worm permanently is next to impossible, that is if you drive the car.

Ah, so that makes it perfectly normal and ok. Also, whats the price of a restored beetle vs restored civic? hmmm let me think for one second - haha!

Fact is, it would of taken many thousands to restore this properly and not cost effective at all - by properly, i mean via a acid bath then cutting all the rot out, and replacing with new material. A very long process... I can see previous attempt you/someone has made to try and curb the rust in the engine bay..

Yes, that's exactly my point when I said EK9s are not yet rare enough for anyone to go through the process... I never said this would become a show car, there's no point in fully restoring a shell like this when far better ones are available. I offered it as I know that with a little bit of welding (and I mean a little bit) this would work another 5, 6 7 years as a track car without any issues. No point in arguing now, it's getting scrapped anyway.

Minimal welding needed on this car anyone half decent could sort it in a weekend .. Ideal track car offered to the group for next to nothing . Sad to see it scrapped but parts will go onto make your new project a topper marek . Well in .

I didnt mean offence - sure if it was a rare ferrari you would save it even if the chassis number was the only remaining unrottwn bit ;-)

Just it didnt make time or cost sense to work with something that rotten - that was my point.

So after I've started to strip the shell and pretty much gave up all hope I had a chap come down tonight and he'll be taking it to turn into a track car, so it's all good!
John - it's quite harsh to say that, especially without ever seeing the car in person. I'm sure you wouldn't like it if people said that about your car. I know it's far from perfect but it's certainly not "only good for scrap" as you put it. The chap who's taking the car confirmed what I've been saying all along - it is perfect for a track car, just needs a tidy up, that's all.
Anyway, she has a few more years of life ahead of her, and that makes me happy!

Update! Start at the bottom!!
