Has anyone had to have a carbon bonnet re-lacquered or know if it’s even possible? I don’t want to have to spray it white to hide the damage.

the time i had my evo 8, i had to re-lacquer the carbon spoiler as it was starting to peel, i didnt no if it could be done either but i thought id give it a go anyway and when it was finished, it came up like brand new so go for it mate :nice:

the car had just been imported from japan and the spoiler was sun burnt so to speak so the original lacquer was very flaky, i just got the power washer to it to strip the lacquer off as it didn't take much to remove it since it was really bad. when the spoiler was down to the carbon, i then sanded it with 800 wet paper and then lacquered it and the job was a good'n, (a fine sanding paper is best as you dont want to scratch the carbon)

cheers dude :)

So remove all the lacquer then? Is this necessary or can it be done to sanded down lacquer? Just out of interest, what lacquer did you use?

make sure you feather out the old lacquer into carbon fibre (sand into the carbon were the original lacquer is stripped off, doing most of the work on the lacquer and not going to deep on the carbon as the carbon is made up of about 2mm resin on top of a carbon cloth). any good 2k lacquer will do.

as for the scratches, if they are not deeper than 1mm and doesn't break the resin that is over the cloth, it should be ok. be very cautious when doing this as you dont want to go through the resin into the cloth because if you do, when lacquered it will be a different colour.
