Just after all your opinions on the various options with Cats & how each performs in your experience.....before/after etc etc & also differences in exhaust noise with each setup?:nice:

My DC2 has a hi-flow at the moment though i can honestly say i didnt feel alot of difference when it was fitted along with a JDM 98 4-1 manifold. Surprising as the UK Teg is restrictive in these areas in stock form.

Im considering going for a resonated decat instead, figuring that NO restriction as opposed to the "slight" restriction of the hiflow matrix "should" be beneficial when the car is remapped. Being it has a stock UKDM P73 ECU at the moment im thinking there is definitely more to come with the mapping optimized for my breathing mods so just want to make sure that all the bolt-ons will work in harmony.

There is a minefield of contradictory info on the itrdc2 forum so i thought id ask you guys for your B16 experiences (B18 for some of you too:nice:)...

Cheers.:)

i have a home made de-cat, standard box with the stuff broken out lol
i cant really compare it to a standard b16a2 as i done it when i fitted the engine into my ej9 but i went in a friends ek4 and it didnt feel much different tbh but i wasnt driving..... not much help i know but i thought i would say anyways lol

go for the decat. thats what ive always run. sounds beter and frees it up alot more.

Well i've always sworn by de cat pipes free her up, having said that i'm currently running a cat to keep noise volumes down a bit still running great.

decat definitely frees up a bit of power and sounds a lot deeper too, go for the decat

High flow cat has about the same flow as decat, theres no restriction in a high flow cat since the body diamter is about an inch or 2 bigger than your system. Only difference is the sound. The cat takes away that high pitched raspy sound.

I remember Team Integra did a dyno test between Cat and Decat, the results were no difference. Like 1whp lost and gained throught rev range. Bad thing is, not good for mother nature.

As a post-sript to this I ended up fitting an adjustable decat when the Twinloop went onto the car....

Unfortunately it just didn't sound right at all...kind of tinny & hollow:nono:

Having had my hiflow modified & fitted up, it now has the sweet Twinloop note all us fanboys love!:nice:

If any of you are running a twinloop with a decat my best advice would be to fit a hiflow Cat to make it sound (even) sweeter:nice:

None whatsoever mate, though seeing as mine is a hiflow that may account for it.....

hmm when i had my cat back in for the mot car was still pulling like a train, I don`t think the decat makes much difference,, i thought it did before when i MOT`ed teh car last year, but that was without my toda manifold installed i would say if anything with the CAT installed this time round i had slightly more low end power,,
may swap mine back in again for another test drive.. the JDM cat is much like a highflow cat anyhow...............

In my opinion de-cat is a way to go, cheaper and you can get better results.

yeah decat is the way to go i have a resonated decat mated with my itr cat back and the car just sounds awsome very quiet and when you give it some gas you mainly hear the grunt of the motor, plus less resrictive i noticed a huge differance on my b16a2 i can make a video if you want to hear it

i vote cat with a decent exhaust!!! thats what im running and cant say a de-cat would make a difference that big that'd you'd notice but its going to always be a differnce of opnion :)

Decat FTW.

Been trying a few things out recently Cat no cat Spoon N1 Mugen TL etc etc.

Decats are a lot more noticable on UK cars IMO due to the Cats being so restrictive. However my car definitely breaths better in the VTEC RPM.

Decat HANDS DOWN

Guess it all depends on personal taste, but i would not use a decat with my TL again purely because it totally ruined the noise of the system.....

When somebody like Mugen designs a system as a "Cat-Back" then all the sound "harmonics" are designed for a CAT to be fitted i reckon

A resonated Decat may have been a better choice noise-wise, but i could feel no difference with the straight decat compared to the hiflow....
