Evening everyone

I've got a riddle for you guys, make this one easy for me please:))

My car is a stock ek4 VTi, B16A2 engine, hydraulic clutch.
The odometer shows 124k kilometers, and the clutch was already replaced by the previous owner (I know him well and this information is 100%). In the last 6 years the car was not used alot (say once in a week). The clutch was not abused. Now I drive the car mostly on weekends

To the problem then
Since summer I am experiencing some clutch slippage from time to time. Sometimes it slips, but not too badly. Sometimes I can floor the throttle on 5th gear at 30kmh and there is no slipping.

Sooo the question
Does this mean that the clutch is starting to show wear and must be replaced? Or this can be caused by some problems in the hydraulic line? Or something else?

Thanks in advance :nerv:

As far I know, hydraulic line are there for the release. Once you are in gear and moving, you can remove all the lines and even the cylinders and you should move forward without problem.

Clutch slipping has to be with the clutch disk which could have been wear out, the presure plate which maybe is not pressing the clutch disk firm to the flywheel, or some kind of fluid went in between the clutch and the flywheel.

I think after 6 years, is enough to have your clutch replaced.

Thanks for the reply mate.
I just wanted to know what could make the clutch slip apart from the clutch disk. Yeah, air in the hydraulic line will affect the release, so its not the case.
Leaves the pressure plate then, it might be the problem.

I'd just replace the whole set, pressure plate, clutch etc.

The slipping is caused by either a weak pressure plate , worn clutch disc or fluid getting onto the disc by means of a crankshaft oil seal or main/input shaft oil seal , so check for leaks around the clutch housing before you decide to change the clutch.

Change your old clutch for a new one.
The Integra (DC2) OEM clutch will fit perectly for your civic VTi and don't forget replaced the crankshaft oil seal as well.

Thanks for the advice lads :thanks:
I'll try to see if there are some leaks. If not, I'll just replace the parts then.
I'll post when the clutch problem gets fixed.

Hi guys,

I seem to have a habit of bumping up old threads. I am guessing the B16B also uses a hydraulic clutch? I suspect my setup is not right also, symptoms below:

1) Trying to mount a curb head on, Try to get up it after only a few seconds I began smelling a horrible burning / friction type smelll). I suspected this was the clutch as I saw no damage anywhere else

2) Have recently noticed the bite is quite high on the car. Sometimes its almost as if lifting the clutch up makes the car want to stall. So I give it a bit more gas to compensate. Thought it was just me getting used to the car before but am no suspecting problems

3) Noticed at high revs when changing up from 2nd to 3rd it can sound as if I have not go the clutch engaged during my shift, thus some gearbox grinding noises. This has only happened to me after the burning smell in point 3.

Im happy to look into replacing the setup, I run standard power so would look for an OEM pressure plate / clutch disk / thrust bearing (possibly throw in a Fidenza flywheel). But before I go down this route are there any things I should look out for? I heard you can make adjustments if its a hydraulic clutch? Do you guys reckon my setup is toast?
