Morning Guys,

I have a 1997 EK9 and the Cobra 6422 alarm was installed back in 1998, so it is extremely old. The problem initially only happened once where i tried to turn the ignition on maybe up to a year ago and there was nothing but the starter motor ticking, since then i have had no major problems and have since replaced with a brand new battery.

Now, 2 days ago i went to start the car and had the same problem so left it for 5 minutes and the car started, strange, but... last night i was round the parents house and about to leave when it just stuttered again and made a constant "T-T-T-T-T-T" sound from where the immobiliser L.E.D is by the ignition and inside the engine... the L.E.D was flashing faster and as soon as i opened the door the L.E.D slowed down, went faint and struggled! After persisting with this for a while i turned the ignition on, turned my lights on full, and then full beam with my indicators on, left to right etc and as soon as i turned the ignition... cut it out and then maybe 2 seconds later it all came back on... here is the strange bit... the last time before i gave up, the car started and was healthy! i am confused.

Bit of background, the alternator is on the brink as well and the voltage is fluctuating but i dont think its the alternator causing this problem?

Any advise!

Many thanks,

Dead battery? if the alternator's a bit iffy it sounds like the battery might not be getting topped up and now could be flat or very weak. I know when my battery let go it just did it out of the blue, the day before the car started the next day nothing. Worth checking out. Voltage issues could be causing other issues too.

Hi Bli!tz, thanks for the info, i replaced the battery about 3 months ago. the battery is not dead as i can have my stereo, full beams and indicators on, dash lights are all on as they should be and the LED is flashing away... as soon as i turn the key the power is cut, 2 seconds later everything comes back on again.

I think it must be to do with the immobiliser as its imported and came with a starter motor and fuel cut off included and it sounds like the starter motor is ticking over and being stopped.

I had the same issue today where the car ran about 4 times, then again, it stopped working for 30 minutes until i called a parent to come out and the car started, pretty damn frustrating but i have it booked in with an auto electric company tomorrow to disable the immobiliser and see if it helps, cheap starting place as he wants about £28 to do it.

Ok fair enough, yeah you're right it does sound like the immobiliser isn't disengauging properly, should be too hard to remove and at that price it's worth a stab :nice:

I had the same problem this morning and for some reason the following combination seems to start the car....

Ignition ON, Immobiliser (Push button on fob), turn ignition OFF, turn side lights, then full lights, then beams on, then put my hazards on, turn my lights off but leave the hazards on, turn the ignition on and then the car seems to start... worked 4 times for me now :/ random ey?!
