I have a problem...:(

When I start up my motor when the engine is cold, I don't get the fast idle coming on and it just stays on 750rpm:(

I've changed the Valve air solenoid, idle control solenoid and even tried out a new MAP sensor and zilch... nothings changed...:angry2:

What to do????:(

Guitar is here!! :D Have a question: When your engine reaches the normal temperature, does it stay at 750 rpm or it drops even more??

Please answer this following questions:

Did you did any mod or always the car idle like this ?
What oil are you using? also please include the number (10w 30 etc)?
Did you change of gas brand? for example from shell to texaco?
Do you have aftermarket camshafts?

actually, as it heats up the idle becomes stronger, more steady and rises... :(

Also, last month when I was trying to clean the valve air solenoid(i think that the name), the one that attaches to the back of the inlet manifold, I took it out and next to the thermostat theres an opening with a plastic valve, I poked it with a screw driver and it CRACKED!!!!:angry2::angry: I was like S***!!!!!

I decided to put it back and then start up the car, and idle went up like crazy!!! I had to re-adjust the screw on the throttle body to bring the idle down to 750rpm when it heated up to normal operating temperatures. I had to turn the bolt all the way closed and then open it between 180-360 degrees from fully close to get 750rpm.

This stuffed things up bad :angry2:

Everytime from then, when I start up my car when it is cold, the rpm won't hold and shut down immediately... no matter how many times i try it just won't hold... so I had to hold the throttle down slightly then start up the car and hold it revs manually with the throttle up around 1500rpm. After 30 secs I release the throttle and only then the revs finally hold, but very low, like 500-750rpm, after the engine heats up a bit, it goes up to 750rpm and stays there...

It sucks really bad...

So after I've replace the broken solenoid, MAP sensor, idle control solenoid, it still made no difference and now it's got that stupid problem where I have to manually hold the throttle down slightly to hold the revs up until 30secs later, then release.

Arghh!!!! somebody help...

RVM:

1. Yes the car was always like this when I got it. I have no idea why it's like that, I've changed the following parts and still nothing changes;
-Valve air solenoid
-idle control solenoid
-MAP sensor

2. I'm always using either Castrol 0W-40, Motul 5W-40, Mobil 5W-50(never using this oil again). Changing over between them all didn't make any difference...

3. I've always been using the same pump gas and it doesn't make any difference here as theres only 1 oil company in AUS and thats BP.

4. no, I've got stock cams.

Basically, if the engine is warm, it'll start up and needle will go up to about 1250rpm, then drop really fast down to like 300-400rpm and then just barely makes it and goes up to 650rpm, then 750rpm. :angry2:

*The A-team music plays* w8 for the posts from Blinx, Manos and rvm :p

hahahahaha, this is merdock here  j/k i was actually just going to make a joke asking if you had aem ems (its known for bad starts) but 750rpm isent too low, this might sound like a stupid question but have you tried adjusting the tension on the throttle cable? i know there is another part, i cant think of the name :)angry2:) its something like "cold start sensor"... i'm gonna ask out tuner tomorrow :nice:

I think he has an Apexi Power FC, so perhaps there's something wrong with the tuning done maybe, but it can be the throttle body adjustment also. That's why tuning, especially of these demanding parts like ECUs must be done only by true professionals, not just by knowledgeable tuners

Blinx: cool, how to do it? Yes, please find out :(

Manos: even before and after the Power FC, still nothings changed. :(

Ok, I've posted the pics of the parts that I've changed with brand new oem parts.

Valve Air solenoid (the big one)
Idle control solenoid (the small one)
MAP sensor (everyone knows what this looks like)

Do you have any idea the timing in your car? for example 16 - 18 etc? I really don't know if it's called TIME in english :nerv:

RVM: I remember looking at the mapping for timing and did see quite a few numbers and I did see 16. hmm, i might take a pic of the power FC Ign timings

Mine came from japan with 18 of timing :nerv:

The first time I used shell vpower with my car, the car didn't idle correctly at cold start for like 1 week :nerv: what gas do you use ?

rvm you are using the correct word, "timing" if its too much timing we say "advanced timing" if timing is too slow we say "retarded timing" :nice: jugbugs im very sorry ive been busy and havent had a chance to ask yet, i'll try tonight.

Thanks Blinx!! :woot:

RVM: I'm using BP 98 octane, the best fuel in AUS and better than Shell, Caltex etc. 100octane coming soon :nerv: but very very pricy

RVM did your car have fast idle problems at cold start? Right now, it doens't fast idle when cold and gradually slow down to 750rpm when it gets warm, this is the problem... :(

Thoughout the time I've had this car, I've used different fuels and oils but no difference. I was doing a search on google and found many people have had this problem as well but not on an EK. The hondas who all had this problem were cars below 1996.

They had to either clean out the valve air solenoid which is bolted right under their throttle body. The 1996+ models all are controled by ECU. Thats why I changed my valve air solenoid to see if that'll help. but it didn't

Before I changed all those 3 parts, I bleed my coolant out, then install parts, then refill coolant.
I also remembered that air inside the radiator coolant lines running through the engine would have an effect on the valve air solenoid, but how do you top up your coolant and make sure theres no air inside the lines? helppp!!!! :(

These days when I start up my car I have to pull off one of the intake manifold vaccume lines to get it idling high for the cold start then put it back when it gets warm.

Ok, I looked at the throttle cable line right next to the TB and finding that it seems loose. Is this normal? Or is it supposed to be tight?
Would this be a problem and how do I tighten it?

U seem very frustrated my friend wish i could help u. My itr had that problem but it just stopped after a while not sure why.

arghhhhh!!!!! yes, I'm very frustrated!!!!
I almost stall everytime I press the clutch... sounds like my engine had just switched off and then suddenly jump back again... and plus it's getting harder and harder to start the D*** thing up these days - even when it's already warm...
