Hi guys, some of you will know i run a sleeved block but i'm looking for any info on b series with similar issues...

When idling temp sits half way on the gauge, fine, when under load/boost driving hard temps are just under half. Fine

When cruising, say 70mph at 4k rpm temp drops right down, like low, bottom line on temp gauge.

Ive swapped the thermostat with a known good one (new one coming) but I don't think thats the issue as the car will run warm when idling.

Oil temp at cruise is about 60 degrees.

Im running a high capacity sump, 16 row oil cooler with mocal thermostatic take off, mishimoto alloy radiator.

Issue is worse when it's raining but I think this is down to rain water cooling rad and sump.

Any ideas?

This is on your stock temp gauge in the head?
I've noticed rain will cool my oil temp sensor in the sump.

When I was having stat issues the heater got noticeably cooler. Just about reached the first line on the gauge.

Is it still rather cold up in Scotland lol?
Sounds like the cooling system is working too well. Just a silly thing to check is your antifreeze concentration

It's weak af mate lol I only had a dribble leaft when the head went back on so it's mostly water. Not too cold up here the now bout 10 degrees yesterday when I was noticing it.

Wasn't doing this before you took head off?

I don't know about anybody else but I'm running a water temp gauge as well as the stock one, the stock one says it's up to temp (half way) whilst the aftermarket gauge says 30 degrees lol. I wouldn't trust the stock one too much rob.

Where is your sensor for the gauge? Remember the stock one is in the head so when the stat is closed its reading hotter than the gauge sensor

Nah it was I just didn't get round to doing anything about it lol

I don't trust it 100 percent but it gives an indication.

Mines in the top hose, but that comes straight off the head next to where the oem temp sensor is, reckon there will be that much temp drop over a few inches?

Oh yeah I wouldn't write it off completely, if it's at the top stop lol.

I'm not too sure tbh, the coolant can't circulate with the stat shut

There's usually a little nipple in the stat used to deaerate the system that allows a little coolant to flow, don't know if it's enough though.

Try what the truck lads do and block half the rad up in winter lol.

Our vehicles (buses) that run in Canada have flaps that close up in cold weather, works a treat.

You running a full width rad or 1/2?

I've got a feeling it'll be the stat...
See what happens when you put you're new one in.

Mine done this and I put new thermostat in and solved the problem I used a blueprint one
