CTR N1 Crank Pulley

I still couldn't say whether it is 'essential', I guess enough people are running them without grenading engines to suggest perhaps not, but then perhaps they are just lucky enough not have hit the magic note in the rev band for prolonged periods of time. I think if I was building an engine and spent a lot of time driving on the motorway, I would like the extra security over the marginal increase in performance with an N1 pulley.

On a race engine, go ahead and ditch it. :nice:

i see heat you mean now :)

due to the nature of Turbofan engines and will not pass through this point of harmonic destruction on start up, they are bleed air fed gradually until self sustained meaning less stress on the LP,i,HP shafts.
jet engines do not respond as well as a piston engine to throttle inputs meaning that on dry power (without use of reheat) the engine smoothly gets up to speed meaning that H/B are not needed here. rolls royce have limited maximum power output to 85% of its maximum capability 20,000 lbs wet thrust, possibly meaning that the intermediate and HP shaft never come into Harmonic effects, the only restriction with the engine is 0g Max Reheat for more than 90 seconds as the heat generated will melt the exhaust petals!

Very intresting Jimbo. How do you know so much about jet engines if you don't mind me asking.

It's nothing to do with the maximum RPM the engine sees in a car as many people seem to think, these critical speeds could be at 3/4/5k, and we may even pass through two of them within the 8000 or so RPM we go through. I doubt very much anyone has ever tested to see what they are on a B series though. Reading plenty of testimonals from people on HT saying that their undamped pulley has survived X amount of hard track and strip driving etc etc, is kind of testament to this, it's exactly the kind of useage that harmonic dampening is not needed for as the engine passes through the critical areas so quickly they have no effect.

On the other hand, I wonder how many people that knackered pumps/bearings with one did it at a constant speed on the motorway...

I've got the ATI street damper on my B16. Very good piece of kit. From what i've been told there a lot better than the fluidamp (i know Endyn's swears by them to). I'm sure theres a link somewhere on the ATI about why.

Jimbo, fair play mate. Sounds like a very intresting job :)

Most of the serious drag cars I have seen turbo pro mods, super pros, top fuelers etc all use the ati damper as well as nearly every nascar in the series.

my first post sorry i am a newb but jimbo how do u balance your your clutch? please dont make fun just a simple question

When you buy a clutch it is already ''balanced'' but Ive seen myself , a new clutch being used on a crank that was balanced , and it threw it out of spec..

Sorry to bump this up, but debating putting this on b18c? Has anyone been running one for a long period of time with no issues?
Thanks :)

Never had issues, I got a spare I could sell as I plan on getting a fluid damper
