davis94's Lightning Silver EJ9 Build

So I got around to fixing my mugen lip and Getting my exhaust system made up at the body shop again I got a baffled decat going into a custom system into the carbon fibre back box which sounds really well so really happy with it now I also got my rear lip fitted and then got my friend to take a few photos of the car while it is in great condition (for the moment) until nature decides to attack it , my plans next are to use the student loan I am getting in September here and store the car over the bad winter months and treat it to new wheels , coilovers , camber arms front and rear and then a new heart as it badly needs some power now for the amount of time and effort that I have put into it so hopefully winter will be productive have been trying to look into a carbon bonnet but can't seem to find any realistically priced for myself so may just paint mine and tidy it up for next summer .... will be updating more in the near future and be more active online now that my work hours will be calming down over winter so will have more time for the car and uni as well as this I will be purchasing standard shocks soon and getting the car steam cleaned and all the old body shoots taken off and the chassis will be cleansed and ready for waxoyl and stone chip paint in october , but for now here are some pics of the exhaust and some I got taken the other day

C&C welcome as always

looks minty fresh, loads of inspiration for my silver ej9, keep up the good work

So basically now the car has been put back to standard shocks and suspension and paid into storage for the winter months to protect it from the unwanted winter damage as our winters in the UK are quite brutal in recent years , i have started university and am just collecting parts for when the car comes out again in February/march time in 2015 i am driving a daily diesel to get me around (No fun at all) , Yous will be glad to be informed i have purchased a donor car of what seems to be a very healthy and well looked after VSM EM1 Vti Civic Coupe which is facelift the same as mine so should not cause too many problems with the swap , I have currently Purchased the following from Honda

Ek9 Oil Pump (OEM)
B16 Timing Belt (OEM)
B16 Tensionor (OEM)
B16 Water Pump (OEM)

I am trying to keep as many parts Honda Stamped and OEM as possible as i want 100% reliability out of this engine next on the list is vtec solenoid cover and gasket , baffled B series sump , Clutch and possibly Flywheel will see how the budget pans out , Will be getting the rear trailing arms off the vti coupe for the rear disc conversion and having them and the engine block soda blasted to renew them all and the rocker cover colour is still to be decided the parts list is getting longer everyday but i am just doing my best with the funds i have due to not being able to work as many hours because of University. Anyway The civic before storage had a full Steam clean and was stonechip renewed and sealed behind rear bumper and wire brushed underneathe after steam clean with a hard coat of stonechip and waxoyl as well so should do the job for winter , Few pics here will be keeping this thread and civiclife more updated , few pics of the donor car here as well

Many more updates and parts to follow will keep updated plenty

C&C welcome :)

As said before, good work on the donar! You might find you'll have to replace a few engine mounts along with the swap. Japserviceparts have some good OEM like options, and engine refresh components too at decent prices.

I look forward to seeing it some Japenese racekar wheels too, stonechip protection looks like a great job, Might have to do the Integra.

yeah lad the list seems to be on getting longer every week lol , January cant come soon enough christmas should help me now , Typetwo in Dundonald are getting me cheaper rates now for oem service items for the engine so that should sort me , yeah lad the Mounts look fine but may bush them as you said just to be safe will see if the budget allows for it . Yeah Stonechip paint is one of the best extras i have done so far defo worth the coin , honda never sealed these things right the first time !

Very nice build. Oem is the key. Very clean car, bet ur itching to get the swap done!

Thanks dude , Yeah when i have the cash would rather spend the extra dolla on a genuine item over motorfactors tat , but when the budget starts wearing thin am gonna have to make do maybe but for now will remain positive lol :)

So we Photo of the car in storage their last week all tucked up for winter , purchasing a breathable cover asap to go out and change ! so dont worry lol , on a more exciting note some of my parts arrived today from Honda didnt take them long to arrive really as these ones are stocked in the UK or europe all i am waiting on now is my 9 Oil pump which was apparently shipped yesterday :S but shouldnt be offaly long will keep updated on it , had a look at japserviceparts there and they seem to be doing really good prices on OEM items and service parts especially my preferred Motul Oil so i can see a swift investment going there way. Anyway some pics

Parts arrived
  1. OEM Cambelt
  2. OEM Tensioner
  3. OEM Water Pump

Update 04/11/2014
So things are starting to come together with the car I have stripped the vti down the facelift front end is currently for sale along with the doors etc and other things I am breaking full car currently , I have now gathered up enough parts to start working on the engine so on Saturday the crane took to the car and the b16 was lifted out all loom labelled etc not taking any chances mixing anything up lol , ecu removed gear linkages removed , gearbox removed , and now onto the parts that have been collected , I ran into few problems removing engine when draining oil I realised the threads on the inside of the sump are done so looks like I need a new sump :S first set back then when I lifted the engine out I soon realised that I need a few engine mount inserts replaced
frown.gif
, so that's really the only bad news so far.
I currently have
OEM Water pump with gasket
OEM EK9 Oil pump
OEM Timing Belt
OEM Koyo Tensioner
OEM Thermostat
Gates Power steering Belt
Gates Altenator Belt
Blueprint Fuel Filter
Currently waiting on Hamp Filter and Motul Oil to arrive this afternoon as well as a rocker cover gasket and then am ordering plug seals and plugs , after a few more purchases hopefully all that should be left to buy is the Sump , Coolant , Clutch and hoses

So now to start building it up :)

C&C welcome

Looks like a nice build here and fair play for using oem parts.

If you ever need any oem/aftermarket parts in the future just pm me.

Good effort! Will the car get a trackday eventually?

The car will definitely be going to kirkistown once its road worthy and running problem free , gonna used the standard shafts to get her going but going to uprate to Yonaka shafts once I gather the budget up again

Update 20/11/2014

So after a lot of saving and gathering parts for the B16 and stripping the donor car is finally ready to go and get crushed and the engine is being stripped this weekend and being degreased and cleaned to leave it right so that I can try and tidy it up the best I can so I am going at it with strong degreaser and a wire brush , as well as this then am going to be ordering new manifold studs and nuts as well as inlet manifold studs and nuts , I also seen a Honda filter removal tool on tegiwa that have heard is very handy with oil changes and makes removing the filter 10x easier so will be adding that to my xmas shopping list. The parts I have currently collected are as follows ....
  1. Ek9 oil pump
  2. Oem timing belt
  3. Oem water pump
  4. Oem tensionor
  5. Oem oil pump collector gasket and bolts
  6. Oem sump gasket
  7. Oem rocker gasket
  8. Oem plug seals
  9. Oem camshaft seals
  10. Oem thermostat with gasket
  11. Oem crankshaft gasket
  12. Hamp oil filter
  13. Fuel filter
  14. Motul oil
  15. Laser iridium plugs
  16. NGK silicone iridium ignition leads
  17. Alternator belt
  18. Power steering belt
  19. Replacement OEM sump
Big thanks to japserviceparts and Typetwo in Belfast for the great service in getting these parts and genuine items with great delivery times. I got my replacement sump due to somebody wrecking the threads on the original sump on the engine I am planning to purchase the tegiwa or password JDM sump baffles and have them welded in All I need now is a OEM clutch and magnetic sump plugs am purchasing skunk 2 ones next week. So everything is coming together quicker than expected. I have decided on my engine bay colour as well when I get it smoothed and painted
